RESUMEN
Neste artigo, o autor comenta sobre a inquietante evidência da associação de baixa concentração sanguínea de colesterol e a alta frequência de câncer. Analisa alguns artigos que tentam minimizar essa associação, especialmente aqueles que usaram estatina para o tratamento da hipercolesterolemia, e chama a atenção sobre os gravesconflitos de interesses envolvidos entre pesquisadores e a indústria de medicamentos. Além disso, o autor comenta sobre as limitações do uso das estatinas na prevenção de eventos cardiovasculares.
In this paper, the author comments on the disturbing evidence of the association of low concentrations of blood cholesterol and high frequency of cancer. Some articles that attempt to minimize this association are analyzed, Including those that used statins for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia, calling attention to the serious conflicts of interest between researchers and the pharmacological industry. Furthermore, the author comments the limitations in the use of statins in preventing cardiovascular events.
