RESUMEN

This work aimed to study the interaction of both endothelin [ET- 1] and nitric oxide together with cholesterol in primary hypothyroidism. The study included 14 female patients suffering from primary hypothyroidism and 19 females as controls matching in age and socioeconomic status. The results revealed that there was significant increase in the levels of three parameters studied in patients suffering from hypothyroidism. Also, there was negative correlation between T3 and T4 with TSH, endothelin-I, cholesterol and NO, while there was positive correlation between ET and both NO and cholesterol for all studied cases

RESUMEN

This study examined the effect of hyper and hypothyroidism on lipid peroxide, superoxide dismutase and total thiol group. Forty-nine subjects were included and divided into three groups: Fourteen patients suffering from hypothyroidism, their mean age +/- SE was 46.07 +/- 1.2 years, sixteen patients suffering from hyperthyroidism, their mean age +/- SE was 34.63 +/- 2.05 years and nineteen normal individuals as a control group, their socioeconomic standard matched the previous two groups. Hypothyroidism tended to diminish lipid peroxidation compared with the control group. On the other hand, hyperthyroidism patients showed significant increase in serum lipid peroxide compared with controls. In addition, superoxide dismutase levels were significantly diminished in two groups. Further investigation after the adjustment of thyroid hormones seems to be essential
