RESUMEN

This study aimed to clarify the mechanism of silencing of the PAX5 gene. The genetic analysis of the coding region and promoter by southern blot analysis did not show growth structural abnormalities in human multiple myeloma [MM] cell lines when compared with PAX5 expressing B cells. Several transcription factors like Ikaros-1 [IK-1] and SRY-related high mobility group [HMG] box [SOX4 and SOX5] showed a similar expression pattern in B cells and MM cells. Therefore, it was suggested that epigenetic factors could be involved in PAX5 silencing. The examination of the methylation pattern in PAX5 promoter revealed some areas of hypermethylation in methylation sensitive Southern blot analysis. Moreover, the treatment of MM cell lines by methylation blocking cytidine analogue 5-aza-2 deoxycytidine [5-aza-2dC] could restore the expression of PAX5 gene. It was postulated that hypermethylation of the PAX5 gene promoter may be responsible for its silencing in human MM. It was proposed that PAX5 gene silencing could be related to the oncogenesis of human MM

RESUMEN

The utilization of a specific approximation or equation derived from a specific ethnic population is a reasonable approach to the estimation of gestational age for such a population with more reliability and confidence. The biparietal diameter of an Egyptian population was studied over the gestational period of 10 to 42 weeks. A stepwise regression model for BPD growth was derived with a high degree of correlation with the gestatioal age [R-squarred is 0.9896]. The equation which extrapolate the mean gestional age and 95 confidence limit for this population on the basis of BPD is Gestational week = 8.30911 + [0.19318*BPD] + [0.00075* BPD [2]] + [4.583944 E-10*BPD [5]]. The standard error of estimate is 0.94 weeks [6 days] all over the period of estimation support the high percision of the equation for in-utro fetal age assessment

RESUMEN

The fetal umbilical artery resistance index [RI] and aortic velocity are the subjects of the present study. The measurements taken from 1592 referred obstetric case shows a progressive signi cant decline of resistance index of the fetal umbilical artery with continuation of pregnancy [r =. 48, P < 0.001], significant decline with increasing fetal weight [r = 0.43, P < 0.001] and less but significant decline with increasing central placental thickness [r = 0.33, P < 0.05]. The fetal aortic velocity shows a significant and progressive increase with increasing gestational age [r = 0.38. P < 0.001], with increasing fetal weight [r = 0.3, P = 0.05] and increasing central placental thickness [r = 0.29, P < 0.05]. The appearance of diastolic gap is omnious sign of severe fetal distress and a prodrom of fetal deatl in late pregnancy and serious consideration must be paid to safe the fetus

RESUMEN

In Egypt schistosomiasis is prevalent among farmers who are occupationally exposed to the heavily infested water. Many complications are present among these patients, However, it is not uncommon to find cases without evidence of any complication of the disease although they all live under the same environmental conditions; many explanation have been postulated to explain these differences such as : heaviness, repitition and chronicity of infestation. However, a genetic susceptibility cannot be excluded. The aim of this work was to study the pattern of the major histocompatibility system in patients with various clinical presenrations due to Schistosoma haematobium infestation and its complications. The study included 91 unrelated patients with urinary schistosomiasis as well as 100 unrelated Egyptian control.Patients were classified into: Group I, 22 cases with simple urinary schistosomiasis. Group II, 22 cases with benign Bilharzial lesions of the bladder. Group III, 26 cases with malignant lesions in Bilharzial bladder. Group IV, 21 cases with hepato-splenic Bilharziasis. All groups of patients and controls were tissue typed using the microdroplet lymphocytotoxicity technique was done. Some human leucocytic antigen [HLA] had positive associations [HLA-B5, BW[4] AND BW[6]] and the other had negative associations [HLA-A9] with Schistosoma haematobium infestation. The incidence of HLA-B5 antigen was found to be significantly increased among cases of group I, II and III, while HLA-B5, B8, BW4 and BW6 antigens were found to be significantly increased in cases of group IV when each group was compared with the controls. Those possessing such antigens were considered a high risk people and should be given more care if they develop Schistosoma haematobium infestation

RESUMEN

The synchronous electrical activity of the Rabbit's hippocampus theta rhythm of frequency 4-7 Hz] was investigated by online computer analyses. This rhythm was evoked by electrical stimulation delivered to the Reticular formation. The stimulation process was accomplished by a train of pulses or varied frequency, intensity, and width. A difference in stimulation parameters leads to change of frequency and amplitude for the theta waves. It was found that, the Reticular formation is not only essential for generation of theta waves, but also considered as a controller for the activity of the hippocampus

RESUMEN

The biogenotic relationships between single-strain starters of Streptococcus lactis SLI, Str. thermophilus STH6, Str. faecalis SF11, Lactobacillus bulgaricus LB5 and L. casei LC2 were determined in Yeast-Glucose-Extract Agar medium by the auxanographic technique and in milk cultures by the acid development and rate of proteolysis expressed by formol numbers. The results showed that SL1 did not stimulate any other culture tested. STH6 behaved similarly. SF11 could stimulate lactobacilli starters; whereas, partial inhibition -was recorded in the counter screening. The stimulative effect was more frequent in agar rather than in milk. The results suggest the beneficial addition of Str. faecalis with L. casei in starters mixtur

RESUMEN

The behaviour of conjoint cultures of micrococci and lactic acid bacteria was studied. Relative stimulation or inhibition was expressed by folds increase or decreat in colonies dimensions on agar medium and by acid per cent, as well as, the extent of protein breakdown in milk. The results showed that each of the micrococci tested was unique in its behaviour towards the lactic acid bacteria. The highest stimulation was found between Streprocvccus lactic and micrococci. Five micrococci culture were neutr,-:1 while the rest increaed colonies dimensions of Str. lactic by 3.75 to 5.47 folds than the normal ones. The same strains increased Str. faecalis colonies by 28 to 95%. On the other hand, micrococci inhibited both Str. Thermophilus and Lactobacillus belgaricus starters. For L. casei, only one micrococci culture caused marked stimulation by 2.29 folds. The recorded stimulation does not manifest itself by the same extent in milk. Therefore, it could be concluded from the results that micrococci could be used for composing cheese starters while it is objectionable in fermented milk products

RESUMEN

The biocenot relationships between five single-strain streptococci and lactobacilli starters and six microbacterium spp. were determined in Yeast-Glucose-Extract afar medium applying the auxanographic technique. Alt the Microbacterium spp. stimulated the growth of Str. lactis by 30 to 65 Likewise, L, casei colonies increased by 50 to 110,. Less stimulation was recorded with Str. iaecalis; whereas, neutral relationship or inhibitions was observed with Str, thermophilus. On the other hand, Microbacterium spp. tested inhibited the growth of L. bulgaricrs. The results recommend the use of microbacteria cultures to preparing starters for cheese industry. To the conrary, its presence in milk used for fermented dairy products is objectionable Microbacterium spp
