RESUMEN

Cases of measles among 165 vaccinated and unvaccinated children were studied and the level of measles antibody in 230 previously vaccinated children was determined. Associations between demographic factors and immunological response to vaccination were also investigated. Approximately 80% of the children with measles had been vaccinated; their cases had significantly lower rates of complication. Rural areas accounted for significantly higher numbers of unvaccinated cases. Vaccination status did not correspond to place of exposure, duration of prodrome or accuracy of preliminary diagnosis. The seropositivity rate among vaccinated children was 86.1% with no significant variation with age. We recommend a second dose of measles vaccine and maintaining high vaccine coverage

RESUMEN

The present work was carried out to study the extent of knowledge about hepatitis B vaccines among a group of medical and nursing postgraduate students. Findings of the study revealed that all nursing postgraduate students had deficient knowledge about the two currently available types of HB vaccines [the plasma and yeast derived ones]. Moreover, medical postgraduate students although they were knowledgeable as regards the immunization regimen, yet they lacked reasonable knowledge as regards other important information about both types of HB vaccines

RESUMEN

The aim of this study was to measure the attitudes of medical students towards preventive concepts. A total of 393 students of 5th year medical education as well as 54 post graduate students were interviewed by an attitudinal questionnaire based on Likert scale for measuring attitudes. The results revealed that under graduates had significantly better attitudes than postgraduates in some of the concepts. Some attitudes towards various concepts were found to be significantly and directly correlated with each other. For many areas, attitudes of personal health behavior were significantly associated with attitude towards preventive concepts. The concepts that had the best attitude score were immunization and case finding. This study recommended repeated evaluation of learning outcomes of preventive medicine as well as inclusion of attitudes measuring in student's examinations

RESUMEN

Till now the only available weapon towards AIDS is health education. A sample of 196 students of Faculty of Hotels and Tourism in Alexandria was surveyed regarding their knowledge and attitudes related to AIDS. It was found that all the students had heard about AIDS. The majority of them agreed that AIDS is a dangerous disease and some of them considered it as a threat to the health. The majority of students knew that it is a virus infection with a carrier state. Most students knew the main routs of transmission of infection but still some of them possessed misconceptions about casual transmission. A minority of students enumerate the high risk groups while others did not know. More than two thirds of them stated that "AIDS is a preventable disease" but they are not convenient about the efficacy of preventive measures for example health education and some of them did not know the measures. Less than one half of students knew the presence of AIDS cases in Egypt and they suggested that these cases should be cared mainly by physicians and nurses at especial hospital. Negative attitudes towards people with AIDS were presented by 41.3% of students. Mass media was the principal and preferable source of information about AIDS. Most students perceived AIDS as being serious regarding its fatality and uncurability. More than one half of students mentioned that the publics are susceptible to infection, at the same time they underestimated their own risk to infection. Moreover, some of them did not know the precautions and the favorable behaviors that protects against acquiring the infection

RESUMEN

The technique described is recommended to diagnose injury of the lateral ligament of the ankle, and to verify or exclude the presence of rupture of the anterior talo-fibular ligament. Anteroposterior Rontgen views of the ankle were obtained whilst applying an anterior stress on the ankle
