RESUMEN

This report deals with 40 patients of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma which have been investigated by means of cytologic, histologic, and cell surface marker [T and B] studies. The results of treatment and long term survival for 6 years were analyzed. Survival rates were strongly influenced by cell type, patients with B cell lymphomas showed a significantly better survival than those with T cell lymphomas [51%, 12.5%, respectively]. A better response to therapy and long term survival amounting to 50% in nodular non-Hodgkin's lymphoma was compared to 18% of diffuse type. Patients with stages I and II had better survival than those with late stages III and IV [45% and 20%]. These data emphasized the importance of immunological cell typing of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in relation to prognosis and clinical behavior, specially when combined with Rappaport's classification
