The authors undertakes this work to recall the circumstances of the opening of the Spanish hospital of Tunis, the hospital itself, and its functioning. The institution was constructed at the beginning of the 18th century by the Spanish Trinitarians in order to care for the sick Christians slaves of the country. The hospital closed its doors about one century later with the departure of the Spanish religious order, and the abolition of slavery in Tunisia
RESUMEN
The authors report in this article a medical situation in Tunisia in the XIX century. They insist on reforms undertaken by some governors such as king Ahmed Bey and a Minister Kheireddine Pacha. The bad management of others in that period prevented those reforms being efficient
