RESUMEN

This prospective study was undertaken on 126 patients with mandibular fractures at the tooth bearing area. Teeth in the fracture lines were retained whatever the condition of the teeth or their supporting structures. Results have indicated that retention of teeth is an acceptable and successful procedure provided that fractures are immediately reduced, fixed, and proper antibiotics are administred

RESUMEN

Recurrence of mucocele after surgery is not uncommon. This study was conducted to investigate the recurrence rate of lower lip mucocele after enucleation. Twenty four patients were enrolled in the study. They were divided into two equal groups each comprised of 12 patients. In group I, a straight incision was used while in group II, an elliptical incision was utilized. Results showed that the recurrence rate was 25% in group I, while in group II no recurrence was recorded over a follow up period of two years

RESUMEN

This study was undertaken to evaluate the effect of methylprednisolone on postoperative facial edema. Subjects were dental outpatients undergoing enucleation of periapical pathologic tissues related to one of the maxillary central incisors under local anesthesia. An hour before surgery, the experimental group [10 patients] received 40 mg methylprednisolone intramuscular and the control group [10 patients] received normal saline solution intramuscular. For each patient, preoperative and postoperative lateral cephalometric radiographs were taken. A new method of measurement of postoperative edema was used. The collected data revealed that methylprednisolone significantly reduced postoperative facial edema and the new method of edema measurement is simple and accurate

RESUMEN

The level of alveolar bone in diabetic and non-diabetic patients was assessed. A total of 26 patients participated in this study. In all patients, the lower third molar was surgically removed. An assessment of the bone level was performed using a st and ardized periapical film. The results of this study indicated that the alveolar bone level was changed through a slight increase or decrease. However, these changes were not of a statistical significance. Moreover, the difference between controlled diabetic and the non-diabetic was also insignificant
