RESUMEN

This study was conducted on 100 stool samples from patients suffering from diarrhea attending the out-patient clinic of Abu EI. Reesh Pediatric Hospital. Their ages ranged from one month to 2 years. Stool culutre revealed Shigella in 5 cases and Salmonella in 3 cases. Serological typing of the 5 strains of Shigella isolated showed that: A. One strain was Sh. Dysenteriae B. 3 strains were Sh. fIexneri [2 of them were Sh. fIexneri serotype [1] and one was Sh. fIexneri serotype [2]]. C. One strain was Sh. sonnei. Using latex agglutination test, Rotavirus could be detected in 18 out of the100 stool samples. The age distribution of cases showed that the highest incidence of Shigella and Rotavirus was in the age group 1.2 years and the lowest incidence was in infants below 6 months of age

RESUMEN

This study was conducted on 30 patients with endemic liver cirrhosis and ascitis with symptoms suggestive of spontaneous bacterial peritonitis [SBP]. Ascitic fluid culture was positive in 19 cases [Group [I]] while no growth could be detected In 11 cases [Group [II]]. Correlation studies between the various parameters of ascitic fluid showed that :1] The total leucocytic count and LDH levels were significantly higher in group [I] [culture. positive] than in group [II] [culture negative], while the protein level did not show any significant difference between both groups. 2] C[3] was significantly lower in group [I] compared to group [II]. Also, serum C[3] was found to be significantly lower in patients with liver cirrhosis compared to normal control sera. 3] The opsonic activity of ascitic fluid in group[I] was significantly lower than group [II]

RESUMEN

This study was done on two groups of women, group 1 comprised of 150 women using IUCD and group II included 100 women not using IUCD [control group]. Out of group I group-B streptococci [GBS] was isolated from II vagina samples and 5 cervical samples. In group II, GBS was isolated from 4 vagina samples and 2 cervical sample. However, the difference in the rate of carriage of GBS between IUC users [7.3%] and non users [4%] was not statistically significant. The results showed a positive correlation between the duration of insertion of the loop and the prevalence of GBS

RESUMEN

This study was done on 100 women fitted with an intrauterine contraceptive device [IUCD users] as well as 100 women not wearing an IUCD [control group]. None of the subjects had factors known to predispose to infection with candida. In the index group [IUCD users], 16 vaginal samples were positive for candida, and the tail of the IUCD yield positive culture in 19 cases. In the control group, 7 vaginal samples were positive for candida. These findings strongly suggested that the IUCD is a predisposing factor in vaginal colonization by candida

RESUMEN

Immunologic responses to spermatozoa were investigated in the serum of 86 prostitutes and 30 control females. Two agglutination and two complement dependent serologic tests were used. Serum agglutinating antibodies could be detected in 34 out the 86 prostitutes [39.5%] and in 4 out of the 30 control subjects [13.3%]. Sperm cytotoxicity test was positive in 31 prostitutes [36%] and in one control subject [3.3%]. Among prostitutes, there was a positive correlation between the presence and level of sperm antibodies and the incidence of infertility
