A Inteligência Criminal é essencial para conter o Crime Organizado. Porém, a experiência brasileira nessa área até agora não se mostrou frutífera. A trajetória do PCC, que culminou no confronto de maio de 2006, mostra que os órgãos de Inteligência falharam na apreciação do risco, ou foram mal utilizados pelos governantes.
Criminal Intelligence is essential to combat organized crime. However, the Brazilian experience in the area has not been very fructiferous. The trajectory of the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) [Portuguese for First Capital Command, a Brazilian prison gang and criminal organization], which led to the May 2006 attacks, shows that intelligence agencies either failed to appreciate the risks of attacks or have not been well used by the rulers.
