RESUMEN
Our initial experience of laparoscopic cholecystectomy included 41 consecutive patients with gallstone disease. The procedure was successful in all except one patient. The mean operative time was 93.31 +/- 47 minutes, two patients only required opiate analgesia, mean hospital stay was 32.7 +/- 13.4 hours, morbidity rate was low. Patients returned to their usual activity after a mean of 7.07 +/- 2.67 days. Only one patient required post-operative blood transfusion

Thirty patients' benign symptomatic non-functioning kidneys were subjected to laparoscopic nephrectomy. The procedure is associated with igh success rate [90%], low morbidity rate, a brief convalescence and no mortality. Hospital stay ranged from 2 to 12 days with a mean of 2.5 days. One patient with a hydronephrotic ectopic kidney was included in the series. One major operative complication was due to iatrogenic colon perforation
