RESUMEN

To study the expression pattern of cellular markers in benign and malignant form of ameloblastoma this study was conducted. Antibodies to proliferating cell nuclear antigen [PCNA] and cytokeratins [Ck-l, Ck-l9 and Ck-squamous epithelium [SE]], as indices for cell proliferation and cytoskeletal differentiation respectively, were immunohistochemically applied on paraffin tissue sections. The results showed that there was a difference in reactivity and distribution of PCNA positive nuclei between amcloblastoma and ameloblastic carcinoma cells. Expression of Cks was variable, there was no big difference in regard to Ck-l, while Ck-19 and Ck-SE revealed differences. Intense staining and wide distribution of ck-l9 and Ck-SE in amelohlastic carcinoma cells when they compared to those of ameloblastoma cells. Therefore, cellular markers could be a useful indicator to distinguish between the biologic behavior of ameloblastoma cells and ameloblastic carcinoma cells

RESUMEN

Leukoplakia like lesion was induced in hamster buccal pouch mucosa utilizing DMBA and subsequently removed using different methods including radiowave diathermy. Histologic changes of the surrounding tissue was examined after 10 weeks period. Although malignant transformation was shown to develop as a result of effect of radiowave diathermy interference, lack of tumor potentiating was recorded

RESUMEN

The purpose of the study was to investigate the histologic and histomorphometric changes following a surgical creation of bon cavity in the tibiae of ovariectomized rats. Twenty four female Wister rats were used as experimental animals and divided into two equal groups. Group [I] A bone cavity was careated in the rats tibia and served as control. Group [II] was treated identically as in group I of animals which have been subjected to bilateral ovariectomy six weeks prior to the operation, and used as test object. Sequential changes following a surgical creation of bone cavity in both groups showed that there was no, histologically, noticeable difference, whereas histometric analysis revealed a significant difference between the two groups particularly at four weeks postoperative period. Accordingly, estrogen deficiency may affect the bone cavity healing and bone volume mass density in ovariectomized rats
