RESUMEN

The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of aggressive periodontitis found in patients attending Altamash Dental Hospital. Aggressive periodontitis was diagnosed using standard protocol. Aggressive Periodontitis was evaluated on the basis of localized and generalized condition which was further examined by taking OPG and peri-apical radiographs. 1000 patients were examined and treated from February 2009 to March 2010 by completing periodontal evaluation proforma and by measuring pocket depth by periodontal probe. Results showed higher prevalence of localized aggressive periodontitis [71%] compared to generalized aggressive periodontitis [29%] and localized aggressive periodontitis group was found more in smaller age group patients when compared to generalized aggressive periodontitis. There was no statistically significant difference in male/female proportions

RESUMEN

The aim of this study was to evaluate the pattern of bone loss found between smoker and non smoker patients who attended dental OPD. Pattern of bone loss was evaluated on the basis of horizontal, vertical and angular defect by taking OPG and peri-apical radiographs. 1500 patients were examined and treated from February 2008 to January 2009 by completing periodontal evaluation forms and measuring pocket depth. It was noted that patients who were smokers developed more bone loss in comparison to non smokers, but it was found out that both smoker and non smoker patients developed more horizontal pattern of bone loss in contrast to other bony defects

RESUMEN

To survey the dental caries and periodontal status of an adult urban population in Karachi, Pakistan. 110 randomly selected subjects, 57 men and 53 women, aged between 35 and 50 years, underwent clinical and radiographic examinations. The subjects bad on average 26 teeth. Plaque, bleeding on probing, calculus and gingival recession were highly prevalent Men had significantly less bone level than women, odds ratio 3.4 [p<0.002]. The older age group had less bone level than the younger age group, odds ratio 10.8. A tendency to less bleeding on probing and higher bone level was recorded for individuals using a toothbrush than for those using a finger to dean their teeth p
