RESUMEN

A total of 120 cases of foreign bodies in the food passage, treated over a period of 6 years [January 1983 to December 1988], were analysed. There were 75 males and 45 females, the majority of them were in first decade of life. Coins, dentures bones and meat pieces were the commonest foreign bodies present in 88.33% cases Dysphagia of varying degree was the commonest presentation, followed by regurgitation and dyspnoea. Except for five, all the patients presented within 24 hours of ingestion. The majority of patients [95.83%] were treated by endoscopic removal and cervical esophagotomy was needed in 4.17% cases. All the patients had excellent recovery after the procedure
