RESUMEN

The type an complex nature of health problems aroused in intensive care units necessitates an outstanding performance of nurses working therein. The present study was conducted in the three intensive care units at Ain Shams University Hospital. The sample included 39 different categories of nurses in charge of providing direct care to patients in these units. The main objective of the study was to discuss changes in performance after communicating to the nurses in the sample results of their performance appraisal through interviewing. A check list was developed for the purpose of data collection about murses performance. The four components of the nursing process considered in the check list development include: assessment planning, implementation and evaluation. According to findings of the study nurses performance was improved in the areas of assessment and implementation after appraisal interview
