RESUMEN

Acaute diarrhoea is a common disease allover the world. Its incidence is higher in tropical areas. Epidemiologic data on acute infectious diarrhoea have become available only recently from countries of the third world, from children in industrialized nations, and from travellers abroad. This study was designed to detect bacterials fungal and parasitic causes of acute diarrhoea in patients above the age of 10 years. Fifty patients, 22 males and 28 females, ranging between 10 and 60 years old, suffering from acute diarrhoea were chosen from the out-patient clinic of Imbaba Fever Hospital, in the period from March to September, 1987.All the patients were clinically assessed. Fresh stool samples were collected and subjected to stool analysis for parasites, and stool culture on macConkey's agar, Salmonalla Shigella [SS] agar, Thiosulphate citratebile salt - Sucrose [TCBS] agar, and candida selective agar.Subculture after encrichment on selenite broth were made on Mac Conkey's and SS agar. Resulls show that bacterial agents isolated are vibrios [34%] and shigella [2%]. Candida albicans is isolated in 16% of the cases. While Parasitic infections are: Ascaris [2%], Enteobius [2%], H. nana [2%] and Ankyulostoma [4%]
