Desigualdade, pobreza e obesidade / Inequality, poverty and obesity

Estudos nacionais têm demonstrado a relação positiva entre desigualdade, pobreza e obesidade, revelando a singularidade e a complexidade da transição nutricional no Brasil. Nesta direção, as mulheres constituem um grupo vulnerável à dinâmica da obesidade no contexto da pobreza. Tal fato impõe o aprofundamento teórico e a realização de pesquisas que possibilitem uma maior aproximação com o fenômeno em questão. Nesta perspectiva, o estudo analisou o cotidiano de vida de mulheres pobres e obesas, usuárias de unidades básicas de saúde da cidade de Diamantina, Vale do Jequitinhonha (MG). Os resultados revelaram a imbricada relação entre obesidade feminina e pobreza. Os aspectos culturais e materiais de vida, assim como as diferentes concepções de alimentação e de corpo, demonstraram ser elementos fundamentais para a análise das múltiplas faces da obesidade entre o grupo investigado. Frente a esses resultados, torna-se oportuno fomentar políticas públicas que promovam maior equidade, ampliando o acesso desses grupos aos principais recursos para a prevenção e o combate à obesidade.

National studies have been demonstrating the positive relationship among inequality, poverty and obesity revealing the singularities and complexity of the nutritional transition in Brazil. In this direction, the women constitute a vulnerable group to the dynamics of the obesity in the poverty context. Such fact imposes the theoretical deepening and the accomplishment of researches that make possible a larger approach with the phenomenon in subject. In this perspective, the study analyzed the daily life of poor and obese women, users of basic units of health of the city of Diamantina, Vale do Jequitinhonha, Minas Gerais State. The results revealed the complex relationship between feminine obesity and poverty. The cultural and material aspects of life, as well as the different feeding and body conceptions that demonstrated to be fundamental elements for the analysis of the multiple faces of the obesity among the investigated group. Facing these results it is appropriate to encourage public policies that promote equity widening the access of those groups to the main resources for the prevention and combat of obesity.

Perfil socioeconômico, nutricional e de saúde dos participantes do curso de cuidadores de idosos do Vale do Jequitinhonha/MG / Socioeconomic, nutritional and health profile of the participants in the course for caregivers of elderly people of Vale do Jequitinhonha/MG

Em decorrência da transição etária brasileira, com conseqüente aumento da população de idosos, bem como da necessidade de profissionais habilitados para prestar cuidados a estes, o presente artigo retrata as condições socioeconômicas, de saúde e o estado nutricional dos participantes do Programa para Habilitação de Cuidadores de Idosos no Vale do Jequitinhonha/MG, fortalecendo assim as pesquisas sobre esta temática.

In view of the Brazilian age transition, with the consequent increase in the elderly population, and light of the need for qualified professionals to take care of the elderly, the article portrays the socioeconomic and health conditions and also the nutritional state of the participants in the Qualification Program for Caregivers of Elderly Individuals, in the region known as Vale do Jequitinhonha, state of Minas Gerais, strengthening the research studies on this theme.
