RESUMEN

Three major iridoids; viz. plumieride, protoplumericin A and plumieride acid were isolated from the bark and leaves of Plumeria alba L. Protoplumericin A and plumieride acid are reported for the first time from the titled plant. These compounds were identified through different chemical and spectroscopic methods. They displayed distinct activity against some pathogenic bacteria and fungi

RESUMEN

The analytical utility of HPLC for identification and determination of caffeine, theophylline and theobromine in 20 samples of tea, coffee and cola- like beverages was described. The objective was to develop a simple accurate method for the simultaneous determination of xanthines. The caffeine content in tea samples was ranging from 18.6 +/- 0.3 to 27.9 +/- 0.8 mg/mg theophylline 0.2 +/- 0.005 to 1.3 +/- 0.05 mg/gm and theobromine 2.5 +/- 0.1 to 4.6 +/- 0.15 mg/gm. In case of coffee, only caffeine is present 5.2 +/- 0.1 to 19.8 +/- 0.2 mg/gm. In case of cacao, the three xanthines are present, but theobromine is the higher content from 4.3 +/- 0.1 to 16 +/- 0.3 mg/gm. In case of soft drinks, caffeine is only present from 15.75 +/- 0.35 to 25.74 +/- 0.52 mg/can

RESUMEN

The chemical investigation of Plantago major L. and P. lagopus L. was carried out. Oleanolic acid, beta sitosterol, campesterol and stigmasterol were isolated from the light petroleum extract. Luteolin and 6-hydroxy luteolin were isolated from the ether fraction of both plants. While the ethyl acetate fraction of P. major L. afforded three phenolic glycosides, viz; acteoside, luteolin-7-O-glucoside and 6-hydroxy luteolin-7-O-glucoside, that of P. lagopus L. afforded three 7-O-arabinosides of apigenin, luteolin and 6-hydroxy luteolin. The chemotaxonomic significance of the isolated arabinosides from P. lagopus L. was discussed

RESUMEN

The isolation of aucubin, plantarenaloside, ixoroside, asperuloside and melampyroside from Plantago major L. and aucubin, plantrenaloside and asperuloside from Plantago lagopus L. [plantagenaceae] is reported. The identification of the isolated iridoid glucosides was carried out by spectroscopic analysis and comparison with authentic materials

RESUMEN

Phytochemical investigation of the methanolic extract of Centaurea glomerata Vahl. [family compositae] afforded a lignan glycoside [arctiin] and four flavonoid aglycones three of them were identified as 3-methyl quercetin rhamnazin [7.3 dimethyl quercetin] and spinacetin [6.3-dimethoxy 3,5,7,4-tetrahydroxy flavone]

RESUMEN

The macro- and micromorphology of the root and flower heads of Urospermum picroides [L.] Scop. Ex. F.W. Schmidt [Compositae] are presented with the aim of finding their diagnostic characters by which the plant can be easily identified
