RESUMEN
We conducted this study to evaluate the outcome of 203 patients admitted to PICU, using PRISM score. Overall mortality was 16.7%. The mean PRISM score was 6.5±3.6 and 15.5±7 for survivors and non survivors, respectively (OR: 1.36; 95% CI=1.24–1.5; P<0.001). PRISM score also correlated well with length of hospital stay and the number of organ failures (P<0.001). A cut off score of 15 was associated with 89.2% accuracy. PRISM score is highly sensitive in predicting the outcome of pediatric patients in an ICU setting.

A four year old Muslim female child came with alleged h/o fall in school with bluish discoloration around the left eye, neck, back and limbs. The paediatrician suspected this to be a case of bleeding disorder because of family history as her elder sister was suffering from platelet disorder. Finally it turned out to be a physical assault case with no any ill or evil intention.

Five cases of fulminant diphtheritic myocarditis are described. Among them, three had extensive faucial diphtheria. Two had minor ECG abnormalities like low voltage QRS complexes. One of the three cases of severe diphtheria had atrioventricular dissociation, one developed LBBB leading to complete heart block, and the last one had ventricular tachycardia. Three of the five children died; all of them had major ECG abnormalities. Prognosis was also related to SGOT levels.
