RESUMEN

Aloe vera, a popular succulent perennial medicinal plant with a wide range of phytochemicals that have shown various pharmacological activities including anti-oxidant, antimicrobial, antidiabetic, wound healing promotion and so on. Acemannan, aloe-emodin, aloin, aloesin, and emodin are widely investigated active constituents that show various pharmacological activities. Thus, the purpose of this review is to highlight previous pharmacological studied conducted in vivo, in vitro and human assays over the past decades. As current pharmacological research is focused on anticancer and neurological action, it would be interesting and important to study the main compounds present in Aloe vera for therapeutic purposes.

RESUMEN

Introduction:Hearing impairment in pediatric population specially in early age could affect their learning abilities, skills and communication. Early diagnosis is utmost important in these cases to prevent this disability permanently. Aims:In this study, we evaluate the role of BERA in early diagnosis of hearing impairment specially in high risk pediatric population.Materials and methods:A total 65 high risk cases below 12 years of age are included in the study and BERA was obtained and data obtained and analysed. Results:In our study, 40.9 % cases showed hearing impairment on BERA investigation. Severe to modied hearing loss was found in 2 4 cases (88.9 %).Conclusion:In our study, BERA is very simple, useful, reliable, screening tool specially in high risk and un-cooperative pediatric population for early diagnose and management of hearing loss.

RESUMEN

Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is a novel brain stimulation technique which has kindled hope in alleviating motor, language as well as cognitive deficits in neuronal injury. Current case report describes application of tDCS in two phases using two different protocols in a patient with hypoxic injury. In the first phase anodal stimulation of dorsolateral prefrontal cortex improved the language fluency. Subsequently, after 6 months second phase application of anodal stimulation over posterior parietal region targeted arithmetic and working memory deficits. Individualising the treatment protocols of brain stimulation, based on the lesion and the functional deficits, for neuro-rehabilitation is emphasised.

RESUMEN

Six hundred healthy inborn newborns and infants upto the age of 18 months were studied. Cranial sonography was performed by real time 2D scanner with 5 MHz transducer and images were obtained through anterior fontanelle and temporo-squamal suture. Various parameters related to ventricular system were measured for different ages till the fontanelle remained open. These values will prove useful for diagnosing hydrocephalus at an early stage of the disease and also to find out the blocks at various levels in ventricular system.
