RESUMEN

Tracheal tumors are often misdiagnosed as asthma and treated with inhaled steroids and bronchodilators without resolution. The presenting case report emphasizes the fact that not all wheezes are asthma. It is critical to bear in mind that if a patient does not respond to appropriate anti-asthma therapy, localized obstructions should be rules out before establishing the diagnosis of asthma

RESUMEN

To determine the best management of pregnancy beyond 41 weeks, with an unfavorable cervix for induction in primigravida. Two hundred and six pregnant women with uncomplicated pregnancies that reached 41 week gastation with unfavorable cervix [Bishop Score < 4]; cephalic presentation were randomly allocated into two group. First group, the study group underwent: daily placement of prostaglandin pessary until 42 weeks. While in the second group daily cervical examination and assessment took place. Study and control group ratio was 1:1. The date confirmed by ultrasound early bookig. In the study group, ninety-three patients [90.3%] had successful outcome after one or two prostaglandin pessaries. Ten patients [9.7%] reached 42 weeks of gestation without any cervical changes. In the control group, seventy-three patients [70.9%] reached 42 weeks of gestation without any cervical changes [the same Bishop Score], while thirty patients [29.1%] had spontaneous labor. Daily placement of a prostaglandin pessary is successful in reducing the number of inductions of labor at 42 weeks for post-term pregnancies

RESUMEN

Blood groups are genetically determined and exhibit polymorphism, where different population groups have significant difference in the frequency of each blood group. This study was conducted to determine the frequency of ABO and Rhesus D blood groups among the blood donors. A total number of 1306 blood donors attended the donor centre at SKIMS Medical College Hospital for blood donation in the year 2001-02. After each donation blood samples were collected in separate pilot tubes for the estimation of ABO and Rhesus D blood groups. The frequency of O. A, Band AB, Rhesus D positive and Rhesus D negative were calculated separately. The highest frequency among the ABO blood groups was of B (39.43%) and the lowest was of AB (8.11 %). Among the Rhesus D phenotypes. majority (93.33%) were Rhesus D positive. where as only 6.67% were Rhesus D negative. The prevalence of ABO/Rhesus D was calculated and the highest frequency was of B Rh-D positive (37.44%) followed by a Rh-D positive (28.9-+%). A Rh-D positive (19.21 %), AB Rh-D positive (7.73%), a Rh-D negative (2.90%), B Rh-D negative (1.99%), A Rh-D negative (1.37%) and AB Rh-D negative (0.38%). This study showed that most common group was B followed by a & A and 93.33% were positive for Rh-D phenotype.

RESUMEN

Anemia associated with protein calorie malnutrition was investigated in 35 children. Besides hematological and biochemical investigations. Fe[59] absorption, turn over and red cell life span were studied in untreated and treated children. Results showed that the anemia of PCM is a hemolytic anemia due to short red cell life span
