RESUMEN

Objective: To observe the impact of acute renal morbidities with obstetrical emergencies on maternal health

Methods: In this study pregnant women between 28-40 weeks gestational period and delivered women in their puerperal period up to 42 days after delivery having acute renal problems associated with obstetrical emergencies were included. Pregnant and delivered women with obstetrical emergencies and associated other morbidities were excluded. These women were registered on the predesigned proforma after taking written informed consent and taking approval from institutional ethic research committee. The data was collected and analyzed on SPSS version 21

Result: Out of these 196 total registered women, majority of these women 81[41.32%] were between 21-30 years of age and multiparous women with parity four and above were 83[42.34%]. Commonest presenting symptoms were generalized oedema 123[62.75%] and oligouria 92[46.93%]. Frequent obstetrical emergencies observed were pre-eclampsia 53[27.04%], post partum haemorrhage 48[24.48%] and ante partum haemorrhage 36[18.36%] women. The complete recovery was observed in 86[43.87%] women, while mortality was seen in 56[28.57%] women

Conclusion: Renal morbidities were more frequently observed in obstetrical emergencies leading to high morbidity and mortality rate

RESUMEN

Cardiovascular system diseases are playing the outstanding role in the cause of morbidity and mortality in dialysis patients. Left ventricular hypertrophy is one of the universal structural abnormalities in patients on regular dialysis

Objective: The target of the study was to search out the frequency of left ventricular hypertrophy in end stage renal disease patients on maintenance hemodialysis

Study design: Single center case-series study

Setting: Department of Nephro-Urology, Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences Jamshoro

Period: Begin from 1[st] March, 2013 to 30[th] August 2013

Results: Total numbers of patients were seventy three. Thirty three patients were male and 40 were female. Mean age of the patients was 44.19 years. High blood pressure was the most typical cause of nephropathy that is as certain in twenty 9[39.7%] cases pursue by Diabetes and Chronic Glomerulonephritis in twenty [27.4%] in each, renal stone in four [5.5%], unresolved acute renal failure four[5.5%] and Chronic Tubulointerstitial nephritis in two[2.7%] patients. Left ventricular hypertrophy was ascertained in nineteen [26%] patients

Conclusion: Our study concedes the high frequency of left ventricular hypertrophy in dialysis patients

RESUMEN

Objective: To discover the burden of focal segmental glomerulosclerosis in patients of nephrotic range proteinuria [i.e.>3.5gm/24 hours/ 1.73m[2] body surface area]

Study design: A case series study

Place and duration: At the department of Nephrology Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Centre from 1st May 2011 to 30th Nov 2011

Methodology: Patients with nephrotic range proteinuria diagnosed by 24 hours urinary protein [>3.5gm/24 hours/1.73m[2] BSA] were included. Serum creatinine, total proteins, serum albumin, 24 hour urinary proteins, creatinine clearance, coagulation profile as well as renal biopsy was performed in every patient. In renal biopsy <50% glomerular involvement with involvement of a portion of the glomerular tuft was confirmed as patients having the focal segmental glomerulosclerosis

Results: The mean age of the patients was 25.93 +/- 5.923 years. Out of 144 patients there were 38[26.38%] females and 106[73.31%] males. There were 67[46.5%] patients with focal segmental glomerlusclerosis with nephrotic range proteinuria

Conclusion: The burden of focal segmental glomerulosclerosis in patients with nephrotic range proteinuria is high

RESUMEN

A young male presented in the Nephro-Urology Department with advanced renal failure, blindness in early childhood, polydactaly, obesity, decreased mentation and hypogonadism. With these phenotypical features and renal ultrasonographic findings, he was diagnosed as a case of Bardet-Biedl syndrome. Only one younger sister of patient had similar features. Renal impairment is frequent and an important cause of death. End stage renal disease [ESRD] is rarely seen in younger patient of Bardet-Biedl syndrome. However, ESRD in early age is associated with substantially reduced survival
