RESUMEN

In a randomized study, the induction characteristics of maximum initial inspired concentration of 8% sevoflurane and 5% halothane was compared using conventional vaporizers in children aged 3-7 years. It was found that sevoflurane had significantly a shorter mean loss of consciousness time compared with halothane and it had also a shorter mean end of induction time compared with halothane. A small number of complications was noted in both groups, although none interfered with the induction of anesthesia. It was concluded that with this technique, induction was rapid in both groups, but it was more faster with sevoflurane than with halothane with a less respiratory cardiovascular effects and with less struggling scores, which made the inhalation induction with sevoflurane more pleasant than with halothane

RESUMEN

In this work, the effect of pretreatment with anticholinergic drugs on the incidence of cardiac arrhythmias during halothane anesthesia in children was studied. ASA I-II unpremedicated children undergoing adenotonsillectomy were randomly allocated in three groups. Intravenous atropine [0.02 mg/kg] was given in group I, glycopyrrolate [0.005 mg/kg] in group II and physiological saline was given in group III three minutes before induction of anesthesia. Children breath spontaneously with 60% N2O in oxygen, induction was done with thiopentone and succinylcholine, monitoring of ECG, blood pressure and oxygen saturation was done. Supraventricular tachycardia occurred in 80%, 40% and 30% of children in groups I, II and III, respectively. It was concluded that the use of anticholinergic drugs was not prevented, but it ameliorated the incidence of arrhythmias during halothane anesthesia in children and they induced supraventricular tachycardia, especially atropine, but bradycardia was common in group III and was treated with atropine 0.2 mg/kg

RESUMEN

This study was carried out on ten patients during the healing period of unilateral maxillectomy resection. The used treatment obturator was made of heat and visible-light cured acrylic resins mixed Orofar antiseptic powder in 5% and 10% by weight. The bacteriological results of the study showed that the use of Orofar in the obturator provided impeding effect to the bacterial growth, but this effect was not significant. This effect increased with the increase in the concentration of the drug in the obturator. Also, this increase was not significant. The effect did not increase with time of usage of the obturators. There was no significant difference between the impeding effect of Orofar in the two groups of obturators

RESUMEN

The possibility of using aspartame, Saccharin and sucrol with polydextrose and sorbitol combinations as artificial sweeteners and bulking agents in ice manufacture was investigated. Diabetic or dietetic ice milk can be manufactured by using 0.05% or 0.075% aspartame with the combinations of polydextrose and sorbitol without differences. The recipes with 0.015% saccharin were more acceptable than that containing 0.02%. The differences of score values between the control and other sucrol treatments were not significant [P >0.01]
