RESUMEN

Introduction: The purpose of present study was to evaluate the role of perceived social support and resilience in predicting quality of life in patients with type 2 diabetes in Lamerd, Iran

Materials and Methods: The population of this study included all patients with type 2 diabetes who had documented information in the SedigheTahere Health Services Center of Lamerd. From among these patients, 234 were selected by the simple random sampling method. Data collection tools used in this study were the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support [MSPSS], the Resilience Scale [RS] and the World Health Organization Quality of Life [WHOQOL-BREF]. This study was conducted based on the descriptive correlation method. Pearson correlation and regression analysis were used to analyze data

Results: Results of Regression analysis suggested that resilience, the support of friends and individual support predicted 46 percent of the variance in quality of life, demonstrating there was a positive and significant relationship between dimension perceived social support and resilience with quality of life

Conclusion: Considering the fact that support of friends and individual support and resilience are meaningful predictors of quality of life, promotion and enhancement of such factors can positively influence the quality of life in patients with type 2 diabetes

RESUMEN

To assess accessibility of lodinated salt and urinary iodine concentrations [UIC] during pregnancy. This cross-sectional study was carried out between October and December, 2009 in Urmia County, West Azerbaijan [WA], Iran. Data on demographic characteristics and iodinated salt accessibility were gathered through a questionnaire at 1st trimester. Household salt samples and urine samples [1st -and 3rd trimesters] were analyzed for iodine content. Pregnant women [n=490] at 1st trimester were interviewed. Of these, 490 subjects [12 prenatal care centers] were enrolled. All participants declared that they were exclusive users of iodinated salt. Segregation of the household salt samples according to iodine content [0, 8, 15 and 30 ppm] revealed that the respective distributions were 3.3%, 1.4%, 23.7% and 71.6%. Median UIC levels at 1st and 3rd trimesters were 73.5 microg/L and 114microg/L respectively. Accordingly, 86% and 70% of participants exhibited UIC < 150 microg/L. Median UIC during pregnancy in WA is markedly lower than those previously reported for regions with adequate iodine status in the country. Thus, extra iodine is needed to maintain adequate iodine store during gestation. In addition, this preliminary study reveals that a significant proportion [28%] of the household salt samples had low iodine content [20 and <40 ppm] is mandatory in Iran. Further studies are deemed necessary to elucidate the cause[s] for manifestation iodine deficiency among pregnant women despite 20 years after iodine fortification strategy

RESUMEN

We investigated the effectiveness of the mass measles vaccination campaign in Urmia, Islamic Republic of Iran, by examining the measles IgG seroprevalence and antibody response from paired data before and after the campaign. The overall seropositive rate of 624 subjects aged 5-25 years increased 1 year after the mass vaccination [from 53.0% to 72.3%]. A rise in antibody titre occurred in all age groups except the 21-25 years group, which had the highest titre before mass vaccination. On logistic regression analysis, only immune status prior to vaccination was significantly associated with the seroresponse. It may be cost-effective to check antibody titres before mass vaccinations, especially in high vaccine coverage regions with circulating wild virus

RESUMEN

Composite resin cores with pre-fabricated posts are commonly used to restore endodontically treated teeth. This study compared the sealing ability of Core Max II and Clearfil photocore by Panavia F 2.0 cement, with and without adhesive. Crowns of sixty recently extracted human second premolar teeth were cut 3 mm above the CEJ. After preparing proximal boxes and finishing root canal therapy, the teeth were randomly divided into four groups of fifteen teeth each. The Dentatus #2 Long pins with approximately 8 mm length were cemented in canals. In the first two groups, Core Max II with adhesive [group 1] and without adhesive [group 2] was applied for cementation. Pins in the other two groups were cemented with Clearfil photocore composite and Panavia F 2.0 cement with adhesive [group 3] and without adhesive [group 4]. After 24 hours, specimens were thermally cycled for 500 cycles. Then the teeth were sealed with nail varnish beyond 1 mm of restoration margins and immersed in a 0.5% fuschin solution. Aftewards samples were embedded in epoxy resin, sectioned mesiodistally and observed under 20 x magnification. The microleakage was recorded as the amount of dye penetration in the route connecting the proximal boxes to the end of the pin. ANOVA and Tukey tests served for statistical analysis. The first [61.57 +/- 14.24] and fourth [12.37 +/- 13.85] groups had the highest and the lowest value of microleakage, respectively. Using adhesive for both cements reduced microleakage [P<0.05]. Panavia cement had less microleakage compared to Core Max II
