RESUMEN

With respect to increased number of pediatrics operations by pediatric surgeons, the identification of epidemiological patterns of these surgeries is a matter of important consideration. In this study, 644 children who were operated by pediatric surgeons at Qods Children Hospital in Qazvin during a two-year period evaluated. Results were analyzed by statistical method. The most common operative surgeries were routine [35%], important [29%], and neonatal [8.3%] surgeries. Review of educational programs associated with the area of pediatric surgery is recommended

RESUMEN

Foreign body aspiration of airways is very dangerous and sometimes fatal. Early diagnosis and rapid management is vital. The goal of this study was to determine the clinical characteristics, radiologic findings and the results of bronchoscopic treatment of children due to foreign body aspiration of airways. Medical records of 101 bronchoscopic proven foreign body inhalators were reviewed in Ghods children hospital an affiliate to Ghazvin Medical University from 1995 to 2005. All of foreign bodies were removed with a rigid bronchoscope under general anesthesia. Patients were analyzed for age, sex, symptoms, clinical manifestation, radiologic findings and results of bronchoscopic removal. Data were analyzed with statistical methods. There were 66 [65.3%] boys and 35 [34.7%] girls. The male to female ratio was 1.8:1. Their ages ranged from 9 months to 12 years and the mean was 44.5 +/- 37 months. 73 [72.3%] of children were less than 3 years old. A clinical history of foreign body inhalation was obtained in 58[57.4%]. The most frequent symptoms and physical findings were cough 91[90%], wheezing 40[39.6%] and decreased of pulmonary sounds 37[36.6%]. 24[23.8%] of children had abnormal chest radiography. 86[85.1%] of the foreign bodies were of vegetative origin. Roasted seeds, almond and walnut were the most common. In 51[50.4%] of the cases the foreign bodies were located in the right bronchial tree. The mortality was 1[0.9%]. This study revealed that the most common signs and symptoms of foreign body aspiration are cough, wheezing and decreased breath sounds. For definitive diagnosis bronchoscopy is necessary

RESUMEN

Conjoined twins are among the most uncommon children abnormalities occurring at a prevalence of approximately 1 in 50/000-100/000 births. Omphalopagus is the second most common form of conjoined twining after thoracopagus and in such conditions the liver, pancreas and biliary tree, and intestine may be shared between twins. Precise pre-operative evaluations, proper surgical plan, availability of different experienced teams are necessary for successful operation. The present xipho-omphalopagus twins were delivered through C/S. This is a report on successful separation of xipho-omphalopagus conjoined twins

RESUMEN

Uncertainty exists regarding the surgical approach to the contra lateral side in children who have unilateral inguinal hernia. To evaluate the necessity of bilateral inguinal exploration in unilateral inguinal hernia among preschool age group. In present study 84 children [78 boys and 6 girls] were investigated during 6 month sin 2005. Routinely, all preschool age children were subjected to contra lateral exploration when a unilateral hernia was present. All operations were carried out by a qualified pediatric surgeon. Preoperative and postoperative diagnoses, along with descriptive surgical findings were tabulated and analyzed using X[2] test. Thirty eight children [42.5%] had bilateral inguinal hernia. It was noted that children with left inguinal hernia were more likely to have a positive result [63.3% vs. 35.2%].Based on data found in our study, a bilateral exploration is necessary when unilateral inguinal hernia is present

RESUMEN

Selection of a surgery method with best outcomes and least complications in hypospadias repair is of prime importance. To determine the advantages and disadvantages [complications] of Snodgrass procedure using vascularized Dartos method in the repair of hypospadias. Through an interventional study, 31 patients with mid shaft to distal hypospadias were operated using Snodgrass method supported with vascularized flap. All patients were operated once and by only one surgeon. Results of repairs were analyzed statistically. Out of 31 patients, 6 were under 3 years old, 19 between 3 to 7 years old and the rest were more than 7 years old. Results of hypospadias repair showed that there was no meatal stenosis and other complications except a fistula which was corrected surgically. Based on the data obtained from the present study, Snodgrass method using vascularized Dartos flap for repair of hypospadias is strongly recommended
