Metagenous carcinoma of the breast: secondary deposit of papillary carcinoma of the thyroid in a breast with primary ductal carcinoma; a coincidence

Papillary carcinoma of the thyroid constitutes 80% of thyroid malignancies in adults. Females are affected at least twice as often as males. It metastasizes to distant sites very rarely, but to the cervical nodes quite often. Occasionally metastatic lymph node enlargement is the sole presenting feature. The tumor is slow growing and sometimes the patient has good survival even in spite of distant metastasis. The following case is a coincidence of two separate rare diseases, one is metastasis of the thyroid papillary carcinoma to the breast and the second one is coincidence of this unheard metastasis with carcinoma of the breast itself. By my knowledge, this is the first case of its kind being reported

Adenoid cystic carcinoma of the breast: a brief review of literature and report of a new case

Adenoid cystic carcinoma of the breast is a rare neoplasm; yet its diagnosis is important because it has an excellent prognosis compared to most other malignancies of the breast. Documented cases with lymph node metastases at the time of diagnosis have been reported in two cases and local recurrence or distant metastasis is infrequent. Consequently, treatment by simple mastectomy has been advocated. Haagensen regards adenoid cystic carcinoma one of the rarest forms of breast cancer, and has personally treated only one patient. Adenoid cystic carcinoma of the breast is a rare neoplasm. Review of the literature discloses 127 well documented cases. It is also called adenocystic carcinoma, cylindroma, or basaloid carcinoma. It is best known as a tumor of salivary glands, though infrequently occurs at other sites in the body, the tracheobronchial tree, nasopharynx, maxillary sinus, uterine cervix, and the skin. The term adenoid cystic carcinoma is recommended by the World Health Organization in preference to other synonyms [Thackray and Sobin, 1972]

Tuberculous mastitis

Tuberculous mastitis is very rare in developed countries but is occasionally seen in developing countries. Not more than half of these patients have history of tuberculosis elsewhere at the time of presentation or in the past, but the other half are presented only with breast mass with or without axillary adenopathy. Mammography is not diagnostic, so they produce a diagnostic problem. A pregnant patient is presented with a breast mass without any other foci of infection or adenopathy, which to my knowledge is the first case of its kind being presented
