RESUMEN
Several investigations reported out that topical fluoride application by the help of electrophoresis increased the quantity and depth of fluoride uptake by enamel. Using electrical potential to permeate fluoride into the teeth revealed also a promising effect in the treatment of hypersensitive dentine, several electrophoresic units were developed to be utilized with air cushions made of rubber membrane. It was felt that the plastic trays and rubber membranes used suffered from a serious disadvantage, being not properly sterilizable. A new technique for electrophoresic fluoridation was developed using special form of sponge cushions and trays.
