RESUMEN

The tegumental surface of Karyakartia egyptensis Abdou, Dronen and Blend 2006, infecting the Red Sea fish, Terapon jarbua, is described using scanning and transmission electron microscope. Scanning electron microscopy showed that the mouth is surrounded by a single row of 14 digitform tegumental extensions that are seen protruding from the oral sucker. The tegumental surface is covered with posteriorly-directed, multidigitated, scale-like spines that arise from the tegumental enfoldings. Multidigitated spines with 11 to 22 digits are densely distributed on the first and second thirds of the body. Spines with 5 digits are less densely distributed on the tegumental surface of the ventral sucker. Uniciliated knob like sensory papillae and smooth tegumental ridges are observed on the tegument. These are particularly dense on the tegumental surface of the suckers. Transmission electron microscopy revealed that the distal cytoplasm contains tegumental spines at different developmental stages. Three types of membrane-bounded vesicles containing electron dense material: disc-shape opaque vesicles, ovoid electron opaque vesicles and electron lucent vesicles were described

RESUMEN

Callitetrarhynchus and Floriceps [Lacistorhynchidae: Trypanorhyncha] belong to the less host specific genera with a wide host range. The present study reported plerocerci of Callitetrarhynchus speciosus Linton, 1897 from Conger cinereus, Longfine African Conger [Family: Congridae] and C. gracilis Pintner, 1931 [Family: Lacistorhynchidae] from five new teleost hosts of 2 different families: Lethrinus mehsena, Sky emperor and L. variegatus, Variegated Emperor [Lethrinidae]; Cephalopholis miniata, Coral grouper, Epinephe-us polyphekadion, Small toothed grouper or camouflage grouper and Epinephelus summana, Summana grouper [Serranidae]. C. gracilis is characterized by an elongated scolex, 2 bothria, lacking a pars post bulbosa, elongated bulbs, a poeciloacanthous atypical metabasal armature with 7 principal hooks, and a chainette. Tegumental surface is covered with polymorphic microtriches: palmate [tetra, penta, hexadigitate], tricuspidate, bifurcate and filiform. For the first time, tufts of filamentous microtriches surrounding a cilium are recorded from C. gracilis proximal bothrial surface obtained from L. variegatus. Seven new host are recorded for the related lacistorhynchid Floriceps minacanthus, Lethrinus nebulosus Spangled Emperor, Lutjanus bohar 2 red spots Snapper, Lutjanus fulviflamma Dory snapper, Epinephelus polyphekadion Small toothed grouper, E. summana Summana grouper, Variola louti Lunartail grouper, and Spharaena qenie Blackfine Barracuda

RESUMEN

One out of 45 [2.2%] Orange-spotted trevally, Carangoides bayad [Carangidae], collected off the coast of Egypt in the Red Sea was naturally infected with juveniles of a species of Anisakis [Anisakidae]. Most of the juveniles were found free in the body cavity and unencapsulated on the surface of the liver. The morphology of juveniles was studied using both light microscopy and SEM. The anterior extremity of larvae had a circle of 4 papillae; the characteristic boring tooth, and lateral amphids arranged around a triangular mouth; a cylindrical, esophagus that is light colored with muscular and ven-tricular portions; colorless excretory canals; excretory pore situated just behind the boring tooth. The cuticular surface of the entire body except the cephalic region was striated with discontinuous, undulating longitudinal bands and transverse striations. The posterior extremity was rounded with a distinct mucron. The external morphological features of the juveniles were compared to the previous described genera and species in family Anisakidae harboring the Red Sea fishes

RESUMEN

This study was performed on 40 patients for the evaluation of palpitations. There were 17 patients with inappropriate sinus tachycardia diagnosed with an elevated resting heart rate and an exaggerated heart rate response to exercise in the absence of organic illness, they were excluded from the study. The other 23 patients [16 females and 7 males] were diagnosed as paroxysmal unexplained palpitations. All patients had careful history taking, cardiac exam and baseline labs including complete blood count and thyroid functions. Also, they had regular 12-lead ECG, echocardiography, 24-Holter monitoring and exercise test. All patients underwent baseline electrophysiologic studies in a drug- free state of anti- arrhythmic medicine. Atrial and ventricular stimulation protocol using up to three extrastimuli was done as well as using Isuprel infusion if no tachycardia was induced at baseline. The study concluded that palpitation is a common symptom that needs a careful work-up to assess the etiological diagnosis. Electrophysiological studies in these patients have a low yield and should be only considered in patients with documented sustained arrhythmia or highly suspicious for rhythm disorder
