RESUMEN
Purpose: comparing ketotifen fumarate 0.025% and olopatadine hydrochloride 0.1% ophthalmic solutions in 100 patients with seasonal allergic conjunctivitis
Design: prospective, randomized, double-masked, study
Methodes: the drugs were instilled twice daily. Signs and symptoms were assessed on days 5-7 [visit 2] and 21 - 30 [visit 3]. Efficacy variables were the responder rate [patients with excellent or good efficacy on visit 2 and visit 3]. Comfort was evaluated immediately after instillation of the first drop and at each follow-up visit. The frequency of side effects was the safety assessment
Results: the responder rate was higher with ketotifen than with olopatadine on day 7 [70% vs 52% for patient assessment, 85% vs 54% for investigator assessment] and day 21 [90% vs 55%, 94% vs 55%]. Efficacy ratings were higher with ketotifen, and severity scores for hyperemia, itching and tearing were significantly lower. Both drugs had comparable comfort ratings. The most common adverse events was burning/stinging
Conclusion: ketotifen fumarate 0.025% ophthalmic solution was superior to olopatadine hydrochloride 0.1% in relieving the signs and symptoms of allergic conjunctivitis
RESUMEN
Purpose: detection of pathological effects and aqueous dynamics of phakic posterior chamber ICL
Design: prospective noncompetitive experimental study
Methods: WE investigated histopathologic ally the effects of phakic posterior chamber intraocular lens [PPC IOL , Staar Surgical ICL] on the crystalline lens and t/aqueous dynamics on eighteen operated pig's and rabbit's eyes, that underwent ICL implantation and the other eye as a control, after post-operative follow up for three to six months
Results: the PPCIOL causes an obstacle for aqueous dynamics using both anterior chamber and vitreous approaches in ten out of 18 cases [55.6%] and also by 'dissecting microscope photo and histopathological study the same number of eyes had cataractous lens changes
Conclusion: the ICL causing some sort of obstruction to the aqueous dynamics leads to disturbance in lens metabolism, pathological changes in the epithelial cells] and cortical fibers [early cataractous changes]
