RESUMEN
The purpose of the present study was to investigate the analgesic activity of ethanol extract of leaf, stem, and their different fractions i.e. pet-ether, dichloromethane, and methanol fraction of Swertia chirata [Family- Gentianaceae] on Swiss albino mice. Acetic acid induced writhing in mice was used as the process to evaluate the analgesic activity. The ethanol extract of leaf and stem of Swertia chirata showed moderate inhibition [p<0.001] of writhing. Among different fractions pet-ether fraction showed significant inhibition [p<0.0001] of writhing where as methanol fraction showed moderate inhibition [p<0.003] of writhing as well. The inhibition of writhing was calculated in respective to control [vehicle]. The test samples were administered at a dose of 200 mg/kg body weight of experimental animals where diclofenac sodium at a dose of 25 mg/kg body weight was used as standard drug in this study

Two partially purified organic fractions designated by PR1 and PR2 of the fat free ethanol [95%] extract of aerial parts of Phyllanthus reticulatus were tested for the hepatoprotective activity in rats against CCl[4]-induced liver damage. The rats receiving the fractions showed promising hepatoprotective activity as evident from significant changes of pentobarbital-induced sleeping time, changes in serum levels of sGPT, sGOT, sALP and bilirubin and also from histopathological changes as compared to CCl[4]-intoxicated rats

To compare the outcome in stroke among the diabetics and non-diabetics patients. Design: A comparative study. Place and Duration of Study: Jinnah postgraduate medical centre during the period of eight months. Subjects and Acute stroke patients with diabetes and hypertension were included, hypertensives comprised the non-diabetic group, along with other risk factors. There was no significant difference in the outcome in the two groups according to the Katz scale. Our study did not show much difference in the outcome in the diabetics versus the non-diabetics
