RESUMEN

Background: Antenatal physiotherapy plays a key role in the health of the fetus and the pregnant woman. Awareness regarding the same is very important to motivate women to attend antenatal classes. Objectives: The aim of this study is to assess the knowledge of antenatal physiotherapy as well as an insight into the attitude and perception of the same among pregnant women of Ahmedabad. Materials and Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in a semi-government hospital. A total of 100 pregnant women, in any trimester were approached with a self-administered multiple choice questionnaire. Questions regarding their knowledge, attitude, and perception regarding antenatal physiotherapy were asked. Descriptive analysis of data obtained was done. Results: Knowledge regarding antenatal exercises was fairly low. A large number of subject population (91%, n = 91) was aware of the role of physiotherapy in general health and well-being. A sufficient number of subjects (59%, n = 59) were informed regarding the uses of physiotherapy in backache. However, only 2% of the population was familiar with the role of pelvic floor muscle strengthening in urinary incontinence. The attitude of the patients toward antenatal physiotherapy was favorable (72%, n = 72), whereas the attitude toward postnatal physiotherapy was comparatively less favorable (39%, n = 39). The perception of physiotherapy was restricted to exercises (88%, n = 88), massage (63%, n = 63), and hot water fomentation (18%, n = 18). Conclusion: Knowledge and perception regarding antenatal physiotherapy were fairly low, but the attitude of the patients was favorable.

RESUMEN

Thermodynamic protonation constants of 5-aldehydosalicylic acid Schiff base with aniline and related compounds such as o-chloro aniline, o-nitro aniline, o-anisidine, o-toluidine and with 7-amino-4-methyl coumarin have been determined by Calvin-Bjerrum pH titration technique as used by Irving and Rosssotti. The solution stability constants of their complexes with bivalent metal ions Cu(II), Zn(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Cd(II) and Mg(II) with these ligands have been determined at four temperature in 50% water-ethanol mixture at an ionic strength of 0.1M (NaClO4). The order of solution stability constants was found to be Zn < Cu > Ni > Co = Cd > Mg which is in agreement with Irving – William’s order. The values of ΔGo, ΔHo, ΔSo have been calculated for the various complex equilibrium. The Copper chelates found to be more stable than Zn and Ni chelates due to difference in their configurations. Cu(II) forms square planar complex while Zn(II), Ni(II) form a tetrahedral or octahedral complex. The log K value for Zn chelate is found to be higher as compared to that of Ni chelate in case of above said all reagents used for investigation.

RESUMEN

Thermodynamic protonation constants of 5-aldehydosalicylic acid-aniline Schiff base, [5ASAA], and o-, m-, p-Toluidine Schiff bases with 5-aldehydosalicylic acid have been determined by Calvin –Bjerrum pH titration technique as used by Irving and Rossotti. The thermodynamic formation constants of the chelates of Cu (II), Co (II), Ni (II), Zn (II), Cd (II) and Mg (II) with these four ligands have been determined at four different temperatures in 50% (v/v) water-ethanol mixture; the stabilities of complexes follow the Irving-William’s order.

RESUMEN

In this study we retrospectively analysed the unique efficacy and incidence of potentially significant side-effects of a new drug which has claimed to be a major milestone in dermatotherapeutics-isotretinoin. We concluded that oral retinoids 'do things' that nothing else can in several skin disorders-especially recalcitrant acne vulgaris which can emotionally, physically and psychologically cripple an individual for life.

RESUMEN

Spontaneous rupture of hepatocellular carcinomas are uncommon but constitute a critical and life threatening condition. Diagnosis is important so that either surgery or emergency arterial embolisation can be considered for hepatic haemostasis. We describe active extravasation of intravenous contrast medium on CT in a patient who presented with intraperitoneal haemorrhage secondary to spontaneous rupture of hepatocellular carcinoma.
