Attitude toward psychiatry of 4th year medical students after psychiatric clerkship.

The comparison of the attitude toward Psychiatry of 178 fourth-year medical students at Siriraj Medical Faculty before and after four weeks of practical work in Psychiatry was studied using attitudinal questionnaires. Employing t-test the result showed statistically significant deference’s (p < 0.05) in the students better knowledge in Psychiatry, their increased confidence in managing psychiatric patients, their empathy for psychiatric patients, the fact that psychiatric illnesses can be treated in general hospitals and their increased interest in taking up Psychiatry as a specialty in the future.
