RESUMEN

The purpose of the study was to evaluate the results of treatment, both conservative and operative, of Congenital Talipes Equinovarus [CTEV] with the aim of evolving a simple, objective follow-up procedure for uniform comparison of results. Fifty three patients of CTEV reporting to Orthopaedics Department. Shaikh Zayed Hospital, Lahore, between September 1986 and June 1988, were studied. Out of them 43.4% patients were treated conservatively while the rest [56.6%] were operated upon. The system of follow-up assessment evolved, was based on grading of function, appearance and growth. The system has the advantage of being practical objective and easily reproducible

RESUMEN

Eighteen cases of femoral neck fractures were treated at Shaikh Zayed Hospital in the last 3.5 years. Were reviewed in 17 cases. Patients were categorized as those with fresh fractures [7] and those who presented late [11]; either with varus deformity of the femoral neck [6] or with established nonunion [5]. Using Ratlifts criteria results were excellent or good in 100% of fresh fractures and ununited fractures with varus deformity and good in 80% of established nonunion. No complications were observed in patients with fresh fractures but complication rate was high in fractures with varus deformity and those with nonunion. Shortening of the affected extremity from 1-3 cm was found in all of these fractures
