RESUMEN

The study was carried out on 20 female Egyptian nurses and 150 patients and /or their families. An Arabic module for basic emergency care was prepared, based on the result of the base line assessment of the nurses' needs. Its impact on nurses performance was evaluated twice, immediately after the program implementation and after 3 months. The results showed statistical significant difference with positive correlation as regards nurses' performance in relation to years of experience and attendance of the course. Nurses suggestions reflect positive attitudes towards their work, such as asking for more training hours, translation of new trends material in emergency care and duration of time between admission and provision of care. Nurses' general appearance was also improved. It could be assumed that the more the nurse gains knowledge and skills, the more the study acquires competence, empowerment and performs voluntarily

There was improvement regarding staff knowledge and performance as well as patients condition with an interesting finding which showed marked increase of the nurses' anxiety level post the implementation of the program which can be attributed to increase level of responsibility.
