RESUMEN

Cord insulin, glucose and triglycerides were measured in 40 small for gestational age [SGA] and 10 adequate for gestational age [AGA] new borns, their gestational age ranged from 38 to 40 weeks. It was found that insulin was significantly low in SGA [P < 0.01] when compared to AGA and that it correlated significantly with birth weight [r = 0.79], also glucose level in SGA was significantly low [P < 0.05] and its level correlated with fetal weight [r = 0.65, P < 0.05]. Triglycerides were significantly high in SGA when compared to AGA and was significantly correlated with insulin level [r = 0.68] and glucose level [r = 0.85] which may indicate a cause and result relationship between hypertriglyceridaemia and hypoinsulinaemia or hypoglycaemia

RESUMEN

Cervical swabs for the isolation of Chlamyda subgroup A and other pathogens were collected from 209 women at random. Infection with Chlamydia trachomatis was detected in 9.6% of women examined. There was a highly significant association between isolation of Chlamydia and the presence of cervical mucopus and ectopy. However, infection with Candida albicans, Trichomnonas vaginal and E. coli did not correlate significantly with chlamydial infection
