RESUMEN

Oral Midazolam has been used in many countries successfully but oral preparation is not available. Since no clinical study has been done in Omani children, we wanted to evaluate the effectiveness of the same in different doses. This was a prospective randomised study done in 78 Omani children posted for elective surgery. The objective was to evaluate the effectiveness of sedation in allaying apprehension, smooth separation from parents and to improve the quality of induction They were divided into two groups depending upon the dosage used, group 1 - 0.5mg/kg, and group II - 0.7mg/kg. Sedation score was-assessed by 3 point rating in ward holding and during separation time. It was found that in group I, though the score was 2, the quality of induction was fair. But group II has shown to reduce the anxiety as early as 30 minutes and allowing ease of separation and excellent quality for induction
