RESUMEN

Two cases of angiolymphoid hyperplasia with eosinophilia were studied clinically, histologically and ultrastructurally. Clinically, the patients were mainly young females with tumors ranging 4-5 mm in diameter, localization mainly to the head. Histologically, the tumors showed the unusual combination of poorly differentiated proliferating vessels, tissues eosinophilia, and lymph histocytic infiltrate and arteritis. Ultrastructural study revealed the histocytic qualities of the endothelial cell that constitutes much of the tumor. It was believed that both the vascular and the histocytic qualities of this cell population are characteristic and are helpful in diagnosis. The lesions were apparently benign and can usually be cured by excision

RESUMEN

Four hundred adult patients managed by different open surgical orthopedic procedures were included in the study. Their age ranged between 12 and 79 years with a mean of 35.72 years. 265 were males and 135 were females. Patients were randomly allocated into 2 equal therapeutic schedules; 200 patients each. Schedule I received 40 mg intramuscular piroxicam single daily dose for the first 2 days followed by 20 mg intramuscular piroxicam for 5 additional successive days. On the other hand, schedule II received 20 mg of intramuscular piroxicam once daily for 7 successive days. The analgesic effect of piroxicam was quite impressive and highly significant [p < 0.0001]. After therapy 96 percent of schedule I and 92.5 percent of schedule II had none to minimal pain as assessed by the physician. 385 patients [96.3 percent] tolerated piroxicam therapy without any side effects, while 15 patients [3.7 percent] showed mild and transient gastric upset and injection-site pain. Neither significant difference nor clinically important changes in the mean values of blood picture, liver and renal function tests done before and after therapy were elicited. The study concluded that intramuscular piroxicam is a potent, safe and well tolerated postoperative analgesic/anti-inflammatory drug in a dose not less than 20 mg daily. 40 mg daily in the first 2 days yielded slightly better effects more apparent in the anti-inflammatory action
