RESUMEN

Objective :To explore correlation among serum levels of homocysteine (Hcy) ,folic acid and vitamin B12 (VB12 ) and coronary artery disease (CAD).Methods : A total of 173 CAD patients treated in our hospital were se-lected ,including 59 cases with acute myocardial infarction (AMI ) ,60 cases with unstable angina pectoris (UAP) and 54 cases with stable angina pectoris (SAP).Another 50 healthy subjects were selected as healthy control group simultaneously .Serum levels of Hcy ,folic acid and VB12 were measured and compared among all groups ,and their correlation with CAD categories were analyzed .Results :Compared with healthy control group ,there was significant rise in serum Hcy level [(7-71 ± 2-34) μmol/L vs.(14-31 ± 2-60) μmol/L vs .(22-15 ± 7-36) μmol/L vs.(26-40 ± 7-03) μmol/L] ,and significant reductions in serum levels of folic acid [ (15-87 ± 5-24) nmol/L vs.(10-34 ± 4-16) nmol/L vs .(8-42 ± 3-46) nmol/L vs.(7-06 ± 3-39) nmol/L] and VB12 [ (247-69 ± 61-45) pmol/L vs.(170-25 ± 43-42) pmol/L vs.(149-37 ± 47-28 ) pmol/L vs.(132-09 ± 43-64 ) pmol/L ] in SAP group ,UAP group and AMI group (P=0-001 all) ,along with CAD aggravated ,there was significant rise in serum Hcy level ,and significant reductions in serum levels of folic acid and VB12 , P<0-05 or <0-01- Spearman correlation analysis indicated that CAD severity was significant positively correlated with serum Hcy level (r=0-476 ,P=0-014) ,and significant inversely correlated with ser-um levels of folic acid and VB12 ( r= -0-316 ,-0-297 ,P<0-05 both).Pearson correlation analysis indicated that serum Hcy level was significant inversely correlated with levels of folic acid and VB 12 ( r= -0-542 ,-0-607 , P= 0-012 , 0-005).Conclusion : Serum levels of Hcy ,folic acid and VB12 are closely associated with CAD severity ,and their measure-ments contributes to predicting occurrence and development of CAD .
