RESUMEN

OBJECTIVETo study the correlation between the temperament dimension and the stress reaction in children with bronchial asthma.

METHODSBetween February 2008 and May 2010, two hundred and twenty children with bronchial asthma and aged from 3-7 years were enrolled (asthma group). Eighty children without asthma, respiratory tract infections, serious body diseases and mental disorders who were age- and gender-matched to the asthma group served as the control group. The Carry temperament rating scales were filled by the children's parents from the asthma and control groups. The serum levels of cortisol at 8am and 4pm and nerve growth factor (NGF) were measured by immunochemiluminescent assays.

RESULTSThe scores of the rhythmicity and persistence in temperament dimensions in the asthma group were significantly lower than those in the control group; in contrast, the scores of phobotaxis, response intensity, emotion entity, adaptability and attention dispersion in the asthma group were significantly higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). The levels of serum cortisol at 8am and 4pm were lower, while the serum level of NGF was higher in the asthma group than those in the control group (P<0.05). The scores of response intensity, emotion entity and adaptability in temperament dimensions were positively correlated with serum NGF level (r=0.348,0.468,0.195, respectively; P<0.05), and inversely correlated with serum cortisol level at 8 am (r=-0.297, -0.462, -0.152, respectively; P<0.05) in the asthma group.

CONCLUSIONSThe temperament dimension is associated with the stress reaction in children with bronchial asthma. This provides a basis for the treatment of bronchial asthma by neuropsychological adjustment.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVETo study the changes of red cell immune function and T-lymphocyte subsets in children with bronchiolitis and their possible roles in the pathogenesis of bronchiolitis.

METHODSForty-five children with bronchiolitis and 30 healthy controls were enrolled. Red cell immune complex rosette (RBC-ICR) and red cell C3b receptor rosette (RBC-C3bRR) were detected. The percentages of CD3+, CD4+ and CD8+ cells were assayed by flow cytometry.

RESULTSRBC-C3bRR[(13.6 ± 6.2)% vs (18.0 ± 7.4)%] and the percentage of CD8+ cells [(21.6 ± 4.4)% vs (25.6 ± 5.2) %] in the bronchiolitis group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.01). The percentage of CD3+ cells [(59.9 ± 6.7)% vs (52.1 ± 8.3)%] and CD4+ cells [(53.5 ± 6.2)% vs (46.8 ± 4.9)%] and RBC-ICR [(8.3 ± 3.5)% vs (6.1 ± 2.5)%] in the bronchiolitis group were higher than those in the control group (P<0.01). The percentage of CD4+ cells was positively correlated with RBC-ICR (r=0.63,P<0.05) and negatively correlated with RBC-C3bRR (r=-0.82,P<0.01).

CONCLUSIONSThere are dysfunctions of red cell immune and T-lymphocyte subsets in children with brochiolitis, which may play a role in the pathogenesis of brochiolitis.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVETo introduce the double scanning for producing computer aided design and computer aided manufacture (CAD-CAM) zirconia crowns, and to compare Procera with Everest CAD-CAM system by observing clinical effects of the crowns.

METHODSForty CAD-CAM zirconia crowns (10 crowns by Procera, and 30 crowns by Everest) were evaluated, and the examination criteria included: marginal fit, aesthetics, gingival health, retention, and fracture. All of the zirconia copings were produced using double scanning. Procera system and Everest system use contact scanner and optical scanner respectively.

RESULTSThe observation time for the crowns ranged from 6 to 24 months. The results of clinic evaluation were acceptable in all restorations.

CONCLUSIONSDouble scanning could be used to produce complicated zirconia copings by CAD-CAM in order to get proper symmetrical porcelain length. It was easier to make complicated coping with contact scanner than with optical scanner.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVETo analyze the effects of core material and design on the fracture mechanism of veneered all-ceramic crowns.

METHODSThe fracture process of 6 veneered alumina or zirconia crowns with different core design (well-distributed core, not well distributed core, and core with cervical ring) under load was analyzed by RFPA'2D finite element analysis software.

RESULTSAll the six tested crowns fractured due to tension failure, and the crack started at the porcelain in the cusp and spread along the interface between core and porcelain. Under the conditions of this test, the break was only related to the porcelain and not the core, and the crack of porcelain took place earlier in zirconia crowns than in alumina crowns. Minimum stress distribution in cervical ring core design crown and maximum stress distribution in not well distributed core design crown could be seen at the neck area.

CONCLUSIONSZirconia crowns presented greater stress at the interface between core and porcelain than alumina crowns. The not well distributed core design did not increase the rise of break. The neck area was the weak area with tensile stress concentration in the cervical ring core design.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVETo investigate the therapeutic effect of milkvetch injection (MI) combined with Captopril on early diabetic nephropathy (EDN).

METHODSA total of 69 EDN patients were randomly divided into three groups, with 23 in each group. Besides the conventional hypoglycemic therapy, patients in Group A Captopril, in Group B MI plus Captopril and in Group C MI were given respectively. The therapeutic course for all was 3 months. The related indices of EDN before and after treatment were measured and compared.

RESULTSAfter treatment, the blood pressure significantly lowered after treatment in Group A and B (P<0.01), but unchanged in Group C; the levels of blood glucose and HbA1c significantly decreased in Group B and C (P < 0.05 or P<0.01), and significant difference was shown in comparison of Group B with Group A (P<0.05); levels of 24hrs urinary albumin excretion (UAER), blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and serum creatinine (SCr) significantly decreased in all 3 groups, and the decrement in Group B was more significant than that in the other two groups (P <0.05).

CONCLUSIONMI combined with Captopril can not only decrease blood pressure, blood glucose and HbA1c, but also significantly decrease the UAER in treating EDN.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVETo analyze the stress distribution induced by simulated intra-oral loads on ceramometal crowns with different length of shoulder porcelain in labial margins.

METHODSEighteen two-dimensional finite element models of the maxillary central incisor restored with ceramometal crowns were constructed which were designed with different labial terminal locations of metal coping. Different coping alloys and marginal designs were employed in the crown models. The stresses of porcelain veneers and adhesive layers in all models were estimated with different loading locations and angles.

RESULTSAlthough coping alloys and marginal designs were different, the labial terminal locations of metal coping had no influence on the stress distribution of porcelain veneers and adhesive layers.

CONCLUSIONThe coping design of short labial margin to add the length of shoulder porcelain of ceramometal restorations can be used clinically.
