RESUMEN

PURPOSE: This study was to examine the effects of the hypertension self-help program on knowledge, self-efficacy, self-management compliance, and physiological parameters for workers with hypertension. METHODS: The subjects of study were 54 patients with hypertension, divided into 28 of experimental group and 26 of control group, working in a general work place located in K city from June to September, 2009. Experiment treatment was a 12-week self-care program given for two hours, once a week. RESULTS: After conducting a self-help program, the experimental group showed significant increase in knowledge level, self-efficacy, self-management compliance, and physiological parameters including blood pressure, BMI, total cholesterol level, neutral fat, and LDL-cholesterol of blood lipids compared to the control group. CONCLUSION: This program is greatly recommended for workshops.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: The present study was conducted in order to examine claustrophobia, noise sensitivity and vital signs according to anxiety sensitivity level in patients who have Magnet Resonance Imaging(MRI). METHODS: With 100 outpatients, we measured anxiety sensitivity, claustrophobia, noise sensitivity and vital sign before and after MRI. Measuring tools were ASI, CLQ-M, and NSI. Data were collected from February to March, 2008. RESULTS: The ASI score was higher in women than in men(p < .05), and no statistically significant difference was observed according to age, region of scanning, experience in MRI, and the use of contrast agent. Both men and women patients showed the same ASI score and decrease in CLQ-M and NSI between before and after MRI. In women, ASI, CLQ-M and NSI were in positive correlation with one another(p < .001), and in men, there was no correlation between ASI and CLQ-M, and positive correlation was observed with NSI(p < .05). In comparison according to ASI level, blood pressure and pulse rate were not different in men and women. CLQ-M was not different in men, but was different in women(p < .001). NSI was different in both men and women(men p < .05; women p < .001). CONCLUSION: MRI may cause claustrophobia in patients with high anxiety sensitivity, and noise appears to aggravate anxiety. In particular, claustrophobia was more serious in women than in men. Therefore, it is necessary to develop nursing interventions to reduce anxiety sensitivity particularly for female patients, and to make plans to educate and lower noise before MRI in order to reduce claustrophobia.

RESUMEN

Pseudomyxoma Peritonei is a condition in which, as a result of ruptured mucinous tumors of the ovary or appendix, the peritoneal surface and omentum are involved with mucin secreting cells. This is a rare disease which occurs predominantly in middle aged women, characterized by histologically benign but whicth is clinically malignant. We have experienced a case of Pseudomyxoma Peritonei due to rupture of borderline mucnous tumor of the ovary and report with a brief review of literatures.

RESUMEN

Uterine rupture is the important cause of life threatening to mother and fetus, in spite of progressed obstetrics. We must observe the patient carefully before labor, during labor and after delivery for the higher prediction of uterine rupture. We experienced a case of incomplete uterine rupture at 40 weeks of gestation weeks in a 37-year-old multigravida tried vaginal birth after cesarean delivery. So we present it with brief review of literatures.

RESUMEN

A case of histiocytic medullary reticulosis in 14-years-old girl was presented, who had characteristic clinical and histiopathologic findings. The patient manifested intermitten fever, general weakness, weight loss, multiple skin lesion and pancytopenia with terminal massive bleeding. The clinical finding with fatal course and hematologic features were basically identical to those of previously documented histiocytic medullary reticulosis and verified with autopsy. On autopsy, systemic proliferation of the actively phagocytic atypical histiocytes was found. The authors report the case with review of pertinent literature.

RESUMEN

One of the rarest anomalies of the urinary tract is crossed renal ectopia. In Crossed Renal Ectopia, the kidney may be fused or unfused. The fused type is more common. The Diagnosis is made by a combination of urologic and radiologic technics including intravenous pyelography, Cytoscopic examination, retrograde pyelography and retroperitoneal air insufflation. The treatment of renal ectopia without fusion is that of the complicating disease in a kindney normally placed. This paper presented one care of crossed renal ectopia with fusion in a 5 month old female patient who admitted with high fever, oliguria and a palpable abdominal mass. The literatures were reviewed briefly.
