RESUMEN

Recognizing the views of newly graduated nurses about their supporting stAuts during transition period [first 6 months of service] is necessary for decreasing their stress and increasing their retention in health centers. This study was performed to investigate the newly graduated nurses' views toward their supporting stAuts during transition period in Tabriz University of Medical Sciences. In a descriptive study in the year 2005, two hundred nurses working in health centers, educational centers and the hospitals affiliated to Tabriz University of Medical Sciences who were passing the final days of their first 6 months of service were selected through convenience sampling method. A questionnaire consisting of two sections was developed, the first section included demographic feAutres and the second one comprised supporting stAuts of nurses. Descriptive statistics, mean, and standard deviation were used for data analysis. Majority of nurses had an inappropriate supporting stAuts during their transition period. The mean and standard deviation of the total score of supporting stAuts were 19.7 +/- 0.77. Having orientation sessions at the beginning of the service, providing opportunities for participation in decision-makings by administrators, assistance of the colleagues in improving the knowledge and clinical skills of the newly graduated, suitable manner and behavior of the administrators, being acceptable and reliable to the colleagues, and colleagues' attention to newly graduated nurses' views in working environment were introduced as less supporting factors, respectively. Insufficient support and education for majority of newly graduated nurses in working environment discloses the fact that administrators must act on it. This can be done by holding comprehensive orientation sessions for amateur nurses and providing opportunities for their participation in decision-making as well as providing the assistance of the colleagues in improving their knowledge and clinical skills, and also suitable manner and behavior of the administrators. These situations could facilitate newly graduated nurses' adaptation with the transition process and improve their clinical performance

RESUMEN

Today, endoscopic evaluation of digestive system is an important diagnostic approach in gastrointestinal diseases. As it is an invasive method, it causes fear and anxiety in patients. The current study was fulfilled to evaluate the effect of music therapy during endoscopy on the anxiety of patients by measuring blood pressure. This is an experimental study of single blind clinical trial type. The participants were patients in the endoscopy unit in the age range of 30 to 60, undergoing endoscopy or colonoscopy for the first time with negative history of cardiovascular diseases or hypertension. Cases were randomly placed in two groups: the experiment group who listened to music during the procedure and the control group who did not listen to music during the procedure. The patients' blood pressures, arterial blood oxygen saturation during the procedure as well as their demographic information were recorded. Finally, the data was analyzed using t- test and analysis of variance by SPSS software. Our results demonstrated that patients of the experiment group had lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure and higher arterial blood oxygen saturation comparing to control group, but the difference was not statistically significant. Also it was showed that the blood pressure altered more in the patients underwent colonoscopy comparing those underwent endoscopy. The difference was statistically significant. [p= 0.034] Mean duration of endoscopy procedure in control group was higher than that of the experiment group. Light music has useful effects on cooperation and tolerance of patients during the procedure by regulating blood pressure and oxygen saturation of blood and reducing the duration of the procedure

RESUMEN

Diabetes mellitus is a common endocrine disorder; recently diabetic patients are being encouraged to increase their fiber intake. The main aim of this study was to determine the effect of rice bran on blood glucose levels and plasma lipids in type II diabetic patients. This study was a double blind clinical Trial. 60 non-smoking diabetic patients, with no history of renal or liver disorder, or hypertension were selected and randomly divided in to the intervention and control groups. The first group were given 10g soluble rice bran twice daily [morning and before sleeping] and the second group took placebos. Blood glucose and plasma lipids levels were measured before and after the study. Data were analyzed using t-test and t SPSS and Food processor software. Fasting serum glucose levels reduced significantly from 177 +/- 69 mg/dL to 142 +/- 42 mg/dL [P<0.001]. Triglyceride levels reduced and HDL levels increased significantly [P<0.001] and [P<0.01]. LDL and cholesterol also reduced, though not significantly. While rice bran had a significant reducing effect on blood glucose and triglyceride levels it increased HDL levels

RESUMEN

Catheterization is the most common invasive and stressful treatment for inpatients. In addition to pain, its complications are threatening patients' life. One of these complications is phlebitis. Phlebitis is a serious complication that causes an unexpected increase in hospitalization period and treatment costs. It may cause sepsis and emboli. The accepted rate for phlebitis is%5 or less, while some studies report that rate between 25-70 percent. The main objective of this study is determining phlebitis occurrence and its predisposing factors in surgical wards of Ardabil hospitals. This study is a descriptive cross-sectional one. In this study, 400 cases of catheters in patients hospitalized in surgical wards of hospitals were randomly selected and studied. In this study, the peripheral catheter of patients over 12 years was studied and parameters such as demographic data, diagnosis, catheter type, drugs, solutions, catheterization period, vein, dressing type and rate of phlebitis were studied and then the data were analyzed with SPSS. Results showed that most of patients [%31/9] had catheter for 4 days. Most of the catheters [%37] were inserted in cephalic veins. The occurrence of phlebitis rate was 19.6 percent in 72hr while post infusion phlebitis rate was 16.5 percent. In most cases [%85] catheters were covered with no sterile dressing. Regarding high rate of phlebitis in this study, it seems necessary to conduct education on more appropriate application of catheters in patients in order to diminish phlebitis
