RESUMEN

Objective@#To explore the relationship between daytime or nighttime screen time, sleep duration, bedtime, sleep quality and depressive symptoms, so as to provide reference for preventing depression symptoms in college students.@*Methods@#A total of 1 259 college students in one university in Beijing were recruited by using a cluster random sampling method for online and offline questionnaire surveys in October 2022 and April to May 2023. The sleeping quality, depression symptoms and screen time of participants were measured with the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI), Chinese Version of the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II-C) and Screen Time Questionnaire. Logistic ordered regression and multiple linear regression were used to analyze the correlation among screen time, sleep parameters and depressive symptoms.@*Results@#The prevalence of depressive symptoms was 24.9 %. There was no significant correlation between daytime screen time and depressive symptoms for a week after controlling for night screen time in a week, gender and age ( OR= 1.00 , 95%CI=1.00-1.01, P >0.05). There was a significant correlation between night screen time and depressive symptoms for a week ( OR=1.05, 95%CI=1.03-1.06, P <0.01) after controlling for daytime screen time in a week, gender and age. However, after controlling for the weekday sleep duration, weekend bedtime, and sleep quality step by step, there was no significant correlation between the night screen time for a week and the depressive symptoms ( OR=1.01, 95%CI= 0.99 -1.02, P >0.05). After adjusting for gender and age, multiple linear regression analysis found that the duration of one week s night vision screen had statistical significance in predicting weekday sleep duration, weekend sleep time and sleep quality ( β=-0.29, 0.45, 0.26, P <0.05). There were positive correlation between the duration of sleep on study days, the duration of sleep on rest days, and the quality of sleep with depressive symptoms( OR =1.27,1.39,1.45, P <0.01).@*Conclusions@#Excessive night screen time has a greater impact on sleep problems and depressive symptoms. Reducing nighttime video and improving sleep habits are potential intervention goals for reducing depression symptoms in college students.

RESUMEN

@#Abstract: Objective In order to explore the application prospects of the phenyl pyrazole insecticide fipronil for mosquito control and identify potential target genes involved in the resistance of Aedes aegypti to fipronil, and lay the foundation for an in-depth study of the resistance mechanism of Aedes aegypti to fipronil. Methods Using Aedes aegypti sensitive strains as experimental materials, Aedes aegypti larvae were treated with fipronil, and the differences in gene expression of Aedes aegypti larvae before and after drug administration were compared at the transcriptome level using transcriptome sequencing combined with bioinformatics analysis, and the differential genes were analyzed. Results A total of 757 differentially expressed genes were identified between the fipronil-treated group and control group, including 217 and 540 up- and down-regulated genes, respectively. Among these, the expression of glutamate-gated chloride channel (GluCls) genes varied significantly before and after treatment. Gene ontology analysis revealed that differentially expressed genes were enriched in catalytic activity, binding, metabolic processes, and membrane-related functions, while KEGG pathway analysis indicated enrichment in biosynthesis, metabolism, and life regulation processes, while the glutathione metabolic pathway was enriched in 15 differentially expressed genes. Conclusions The transcriptome results revealed that GST gene expression was significantly upregulated in fipronil-treated Aedes aegypti larvae, indicating that GST gene is involved in the development of fipronil resistance in Aedes aegypti larvae. In addition, GluCls gene expression was also significantly different before and after treatment, suggesting that GluCls migh be a potential target receptor for fipronil resistance in Aedes aegypti. As GluCls is an ideal target receptor found only in invertebrates, this discovery provides a reference and basis for further exploration of the toxicological mechanism of fipronil on Aedes aegypti.

RESUMEN

Objective@#To explore the impact of sleep education programs on freshman sleep time, knowledge, attitudes, behavior and daytime sleepiness, so as to provide a reference for further improving the sleep status of college students.@*Methods@#By using the method of cluster sampling, freshmen were invited from a university in Beijing (288 at baseline, 187 at posttest and 108 at follow up for experimental group (EG); 207 at baseline and 105 at posttest for control group (CG). The sleep education content was embedded into other courses and implemented in a blending learning mode for EG, lasting 10 weeks, while the CG received no intervention. Both groups were assessed using questionnaires at both baseline and 2 weeks after the intervention, and reassessed at 9 months follow up after posttest for EG.@*Results@#After intervention, compared with CG, the weekday and weekend bedtime in EG was 21 min and 17 min earlier than that in CG respectively ( t=-2.78, -2.15, P <0.05). The sleep duration at night on weekday in EG was 19 min longer than that in CG ( t=3.51, P<0.01). In EG, the phenomenon of going to bed with electronic products before sleep, no delay in falling asleep, sleep knowledge, sleep attitude, sleep habit and daytime sleepiness were significantly better than those in CG ( χ 2/t =9.15, 2.82, 5.71, 3.98, 2.41, -4.90, P <0.05). After intervention, comparing with that at baseline, the weekday and weekend bedtime in EG were significantly earlier by 11 min and 17 min respectively ( t=3.50, 3.67, P <0.01), the sleep duration at nights on weekdays and weekend increased by 13 min and 18 min, respectively ( t=-3.01, -3.67, P <0.05), and the daytime sleepiness, going to bed with electronic products before sleep, no delay in falling asleep, sleep knowledge, sleep attitude and sleep habit were significantly improved ( χ 2/t =4.64, 15.19, -2.08, -9.31, -3.28, -2.14, P<0.05). At the 9 months follow up after the posttest, the bedtime on working day was significantly advanced by 8 min ( t =2.00), the sleep duration at night on working day was prolonged by 9 min ( t =-2.15), and the phenomenon of going to bed with electronic products before sleep and sleep knowledge were still significantly improved( χ 2/t =21.50, -6.26)( P <0.05).@*Conclusion@#Sleep education programs embedded in other courses and implemented in a blending learning mode can improve students sleep knowledge, sleep attitude and some habits, and reduce daytime sleepiness.

RESUMEN

In recent years, various methods for detecting exogenous and endogenous hypochlorite have been studied, considering its essential role as a biomolecule. However, the existing technologies still pose obstacles such as their invasiveness, high costs, and complicated operation. In the current study,we developed a glow-type chemiluminescent probe, hypochlorite chemiluminescence probe(HCCL)-1,based on the scaffold of Schaap's 1,2-dioxetane luminophores. To better explore the physiological and pathological functions of hypochlorite,we modified the luminophore scaffold of HCCL-1 to develop several probes, including HCCL-2,HCCL-3,and HCCL-4,which amplify the response signal of hypo-chlorite.By comparing the luminescent intensities of the four probes using the IVIS? system,we determined that HCCL-2 with a limit of detection of 0.166 μM has enhanced sensitivity and selectivity for tracking hypochlorite both in vitro and in vivo.

RESUMEN

AIM:To investigate the change of late sodium current (INaL) and the effect of Ca2+/calmodulin-dependent protein kinaseⅡ (CaMKⅡ) inhibitor KN-93 on INaLin the cardiomyocytes after isoproterenol-induced heart fai-lure (HF) in rabbits. METHODS:The rabbit model of HF was induced by injecting isoproterenol (300 μg·kg-1· d-1) for 15 d. One month later, all rabbits received by echocardiography and HE staining to observe the morphological changes of myocardium for evaluating the HF model. The protein expression of NaV1.5, CaMKⅡδ and phosphorylated CaMKⅡδ was determined by Western blot. The ventricular myocytes were isolated from the rabbits of normal saline(NS) group and HF group by Langendorff perfusion, and the whole-cell patch-clamp technique was used to record INaL. RE-SULTS:Compared with NS group, the heart rate in HF group was increased (P<0.01), the ventricular cavity was en-larged (P<0.05),and the cardiac function was decreased(P<0.01). Compared with NS group, the cardiomyocytes in HF group arranged in disorder, vacuolar degeneration and myocardial interstitial edema were observed, and fibrous tissue increased. The protein levels of NaV1.5,CaMKⅡδ and phosphorylated CaMKⅡδ in HF group were higher than those in NS group(P<0.01). INaLin HF group significantly increased compared with NS group (P<0.01). After adding sea anemone toxin Ⅱ (ATXⅡ), the density of INaLin HF group and NS group was significantly increased, but that in HF group increased more obviously than that in NS group (P<0.01). After ATXⅡ had induced stable current, we added KN-93 into NS group and HF group, and we found that the ATXⅡ-increased INaLin NS group and HF group was signifi-cantly decreased(P<0.05).CONCLUSION:CaMKⅡinhibitor KN-93 inhibits the increase in INaLin HF rabbits, which may be related to the activity of CaMKⅡδ and the regulation of CaMKⅡ δ on INaL.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVETo determine the preoperative serum VEGF, IL-6, and CRP levels in colorectal carcinoma, and to explore their correlation with disease status and prognosis.

METHODSSerum VEGF and IL-6 levels were assessed using ELISA, and CRP was measured by immunoturbidimetry. They were compared between the colorectal carcinoma group and the control group. The five-year survival rate and poor prognostic factors were analyzed by Kaplan-Meier and Log-rank method, respectively.

RESULTSThe serum VEGF, IL-6, and CRP levels in colorectal carcinoma were (591 ± 312) pg/ml, (13.2 ± 3.7) pg/ml, and (1.14 ± 0.87) mg/dl, respectively, higher than that in the control group. The two groups showed significant difference in VEGF and CRP (P < 0.001, P = 0.002). VEGF expression was higher in male than that in female [(638 ± 387) pg/ml vs. (552 ± 271) pg/ml, P = 0.042]. The cases with tumor size smaller than 5 cm had lower VEGF expression compared with that in cases with tumor size ≥ 5 cm [(538 ± 275) pg/ml vs. (647 ± 331) pg/ml, P = 0.009]. IL-6 expression showed significant difference in males (11.7 ± 3.2) and females (15.2 ± 4.0) pg/ml, (P = 0.011). The five-year survival rate in the group with VEGF < 591 pg/ml was 86.8% (33/38), higher than that in the ≥ 591 pg/m group. High VEGF level tended to reduce survival (χ(2) = 0.933, P = 0.344). VEGF ≥ 591 pg/ml was a factor of poor prognosis in colorectal carcinoma, assessed by Log-rank methods (P < 0.05). Tumor size and VEGF concentration were risk factors of prognosis (P = 0.032, OR = 0.985; P = 0.011, OR = 0.976).

CONCLUSIONSSerum VEGF and IL-6 expressions have gender differences. Serum VEGF can be used as a biomaker of clinical diagnosis of colorectal cancer, and has an important significance on the prognosis of patients.
