RESUMEN

Electrode array misplacement is a rare complication of cochlear implant. This article reports an 11-year-old boy who was mistakenly implanted the cochlear electrode array into the superior semicircular canal during the initial cochlear implant. After the diagnosis was confirmed, he underwent a second cochlear implant and the electrode array were successfully implanted into the cochlea. This article conducted a systematic review of the literature on electrode array misplacement, and the causes of electrode array misplacement were analyzed from different implantation position.

RESUMEN

Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy and prognostic factors of autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (ASCT) for Hodgkin's lymphoma (HL). Methods We retrospectively analyzed the data of 38 patients with HL who underwent ASCT. Kaplan-Meier and Cox methods were used to analyze the curative effect and prognostic factors after transplantation. Results All 38 transplanted patients obtained hematopoietic reconstitution. The CR rates before and after transplantation were 55.3% and 81.6%, respectively, and the 5-year PFS and OS were 76.1% and 79.0%, respectively. Univariate analysis showed that B symptoms, IPS score, pre-transplant remission status, extranodal invasion, and pretreatment regimen were the factors affecting the prognosis of ASCT in patients with HL. Multivariate analysis showed that B symptom was an independent risk factor affecting 5-year PFS. Conclusion ASCT is effective in the treatment of high-risk, relapsed, and refractory patients with HL. B symptom is an independent risk factor affecting the prognosis of transplantation.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE@#To evaluate the sustained efficacy of 2-year sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) and 1 year after 2-year SLIT in children with allergic rhinitis (AR).@*METHOD@#This study is a randomized, open and prospective trial. One hundred twenty children (between 4 and 11 years old) suffering from AR duo to mite were chosen from November, 2008 to June, 2009 in department of otolaryngology in our hospital divided into two groups: 60 underwent 2-year course of SLIT and one year follow-up combined with 3-year drug therapy as SLIT group; 60 received only drug therapy as control group. The patients were evaluated at three time points (baseline, end of SLIT and 1 year after SLIT discontinuation) regarding symptom scores including total nasal symptom score (TNSS), sneezing, rhinorrhoea, nasal obstruction, nasal itching and total medication scores (TMS) and adverse reaction.@*RESULT@#(1) At the end of SLIT, the symptom scores excepting sneezing and total medication scores in SLIT group are obviously lower than those in control group (P 0.05). But at the end of SLIT and 1 year after SLIT discontinuation, TMS was higher than it at baseline in control group (P < 0.01). At 1 year after SLIT discontinuation, nasal obstruction score was higher than it at baseline (P < 0.05).@*CONCLUSION@#SLIT can obviously improve the AR and the efficacy can sustain after 1-year SLIT discontinua tion. Drug increased in 3 years without SLIT.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE@#To detect the expression of AQP5, HIF-1alpha and VEGF in human nasal polyps, and to observe the relationship of AQP5 with HIF-1a and VEGF, and to investigate their role in the pathogenesis of nasal polyps.@*METHOD@#Using the techniques of Real-time Quantitative Polymerase chain Reaction and Western blot, the expressions of AQP5, HIF-1alpha, VEGF mRNA and protein were examined. The specimens were obtained from patients underwent endoscopic surgery at the same time, including eighteen nasal polyps and ten inferior turbinate tissues.@*RESULT@#(1) The result of RT-PCR showed that the expressions of the AQP5 mRNA were lower in nasal polyps than those in inferior turbinate tissue (P 0.05); (2) According to the Western blot, there was no significant difference between the expression of AQP5 in nasal polyps and inferior turbinate tissues (P > 0.05); the expression of HIF-la or VEGF were higher in nasal polyps than those in inferior turbinate tissues (P < 0.05); (3) According to the Western blot, there was a positive correlation between the expression of AQP5 and that of HIF-1alpha (r = 0.633, P < 0.05), and the correlation was also existed between AQP5 and that of VEGF (r = 0.611, P < 0.05).@*CONCLUSION@#AQP5, HIF-1alpha, VEGF are all involved in the edema formation of nasal polyps. The changes of AQP5's distribution can cause accumulation of water in nasal polyps, HIF-1alpha, VEGF can induce new blood vessels and increase vasopermeability in nasal polyps; they have separate regulatory mechanism in edema formation, but might have some relationships in some ways.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE@#This study was to investigate the expression and significance of Integrins subunits in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC).@*METHOD@#The expression of Integrins subunits was detected by cDNA microarray in 4 cases of primary LSCC tissues and corresponding adjacent normal tissues. Semi-quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) were used to identify the different expression of Integrins subunits in 24 cases of primary LSCC tissues and corresponding adjacent normal tissues.@*RESULT@#A cDNA microarray analysis revealed significant changes in the expression of Integrins subunits, with IntegrinalphaV, Integrinbeta8 being up-regulated and Integrinalpha8 being down-regulated. The result of RT-PCR was consistent with that of cDNA microarray. The mRNA levels of IntegrinalphaV and Integrinbeta8 were significantly higher in LSCC tissues than that in corresponding adjacent normal tissues (1.0131 +/- 0.4780 vs 0.7591 +/- 0.4678 for IntegrinalphaV, P<0.05, 1.7362 +/- 1.3849 vs 1.2267 +/- 0.9363 for Integrinbeta8, P<0.05). The mRNA levels of Integrinalpha8 were significantly lower in LSCC tissues than that in corresponding adjacent normal tissues (0.2646 +/- 0.2622 vs 0.5457 +/- 0.3827, P<0.05).@*CONCLUSION@#The expression of IntegrinalphaV, Integrinbeta8, Integrinalpha8 were significantly up-regulated or down-regulated in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma, which may relate to tumorigenesis and development of laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma.
