RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the suitability of two pretreatment methods, the nitric acid digestion method and the elution method, and two measurement modes of inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry(ICP-MS), the No gas mode and the helium collision(He) mode, for the determination of lithium and its compounds in the workplace air. METHODS: We collected lithium and its compounds in the air of the workplace using the microporous filter membrane, and two pretreatment methods, the nitric acid digestion and elution methods were used for processing, and measured with the No gas mode and the He mode of ICP-MS. RESULTS: The good linearity range of lithium concentration in No gas mode and He mode of ICP-MS method was 0.00-500.00 μg/L, and the correlation coefficient was 0.999. The detection limit and the lower limit of quantification of lithium were 0.04 and 0.13 μg/L respectively in the No gas mode. In He gas mode: they were 0.12 and 0.39 μg/L respectively. Using the nitric acid digestion method for pre-treatment, the recovery rate of lithium addition was 96.9%-104.9%; the within-run and the between-run relative standard deviations were 3.3%-5.0% and 2.9%-5.3% respectively. Using the elution method for pre-treatment, the recovery rate of lithium addition was 97.6%-102.1%; the within-run and the between-run relative standard deviation were 3.3%-4.6% and 3.4%-4.8%, respectively. The sample could be stored at room temperature for at least 14 days. CONCLUSION: The ICP-MS method can be used as a new technology for detecting lithium and its compounds in the air of workplace. It is recommended that the elution method and the No gas mode be the first choice when measuring lithium and its compounds.

RESUMEN

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To explore the pathogenesis and significance of neuroendocrine breast carcinoma by detecting chromogranin A (CgA) in human mammary tissues.</p><p><b>METHOD</b>Eighty-nine cases of human mammary tissues were collected to detect CgA expression using immunohistochemistry.</p><p><b>RESULT</b>No CgA expression was detected in normal or hyperplastic tissues, but its expression was found in mammary carcinoma tissues at the rate of 16.7%. A significant difference in CgA expression was found between cancer tissues and non-cancer tissues, but not between the cancer tissues with different pathological grades.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The pathogenesis of mammary neuroendocrine carcinoma may involve the micro-environmental factors that affect the differentiation of stem cells to give rise to immature cells, cell differentiation in other lineages or transdifferentiation. CgA may serve as an immunological parameter for this type of breast cancer in routine screening test.</p>

RESUMEN

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To analyze influential factors of cultural method of human oral mucosal epithelial cells (hOMEC)and to establish a reliable cell culture system for hOMEC.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Benzalkonium bromide and gentamicin sulfate were used to prevent microbial contamination. Separations of epithelium from underlying connective tissues with Dispase at different concentration were compared. Enzyme digestion was used to isolate cells and keratinocyte-serum free medium(K-SFM) was employed for primary culture and subculture of hOMEC.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Microbial contamination was under control. Separation of epithelium from underlying connective tissues with 0.40% Dispase was more complete than that of 0.25% Dispase. The cells grew fast and well in vitro.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The high successful culture of hOMEC and simplified procedures could be obtained with improvement of methods.</p>

RESUMEN

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the various surgical techniques and their results for different types of blepharoptosis.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>620 eyes of 500 cases with blepharoptosis who underwent surgical treatment were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were diagnosed as congenital, neurogenic, myogenic, traumatic, senile and mechanical ptosis. The used techniques included resection of levator muscle, anastomosis of frontalis muscle and levator aponeurosis, Whitnall's ligament sling, Friedenwald- Guyton's frontalis muscle fixation, levator aponeurosis reconstruction, modified Hotz's tarsectomy.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The overall success rate was 90.3% (560/620). 60 eyes with unsatisfactory result showed overcorrection in 5 eyes and undercorrection in 55 eyes in which the patients also suffered from combined eyelid deformities in 4 eyes, entropion in 6 eyes and ectropion in 2 eyes. The success rate of resection of levator muscle for the mild and moderate congenital ptosis was 93.8%. The success rates of resection of levator muscle and anastomosis of levator aponeurosis and frontalis muscle for the severe congenital ptosis were 72.4% and 100% respectively. The success rate of Whitnall's ligament sling for the recurrent congenital ptosis was 90%. The success rates of Friedenwald-Guyton's frontalis muscle fixation, Whitnall's ligament sling and anastomosis of levator aponeurosis and frontalis muscle for the neurogenic and myogenic ptosis was 41.6%, 80% and 90% respectively. The success rates of levator aponeurosis reconstruction for the traumatic and senile ptosis were 94.7% and 100%, respectively. The success rate of modified Hotz' tarsectomy for the mechanical ptosis was 93.3%.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>The key point for successful correction of ptosis is the selection of the right indication for each technique depended on the type and severity of the ptosis. The technique skill is also very important.</p>

RESUMEN

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To clarify expression and subcellular localization of XIAP and XAF1 protein in human normal oral keratinocytes (hNOK) and Tca8113 cells human tongue carcinoma cell line.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>The hNOKs and Tca8113 cells were cultured in vitro. Expression and subcellular localization of XIAP and XAF1 protein were examined by combination of indirect immunofluorescence and confocal laser scanning microscopy.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>XIAP expression was weak in the hNOKs and fluorescence staining localized chiefly in the cytoplasm and perinuclear areas. In the Tca8113 cells, high level of XIAP protein could be detected in both the cytoplasm and the nucleus. In the hNOKs, XAF1 distributed mostly in the nucleus. Homogeneous nuclear and cytoplasmic distribution of XAF1 could be visualized in the Tca8113 cells.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>In cancerization of oral mucosa, XIAP protein could play an important antiapoptotic role by overexpression, while XAF1 protein does not appear to antagonize effectively the role of XIAP.</p>

RESUMEN

Objective To observe the effect of liver disease special-purpose enteral nutrition preparation on protein metabolism and liver function in children with liver injury. Methods Sixty cases of severe ill with liver injury in hospital, with mean age of (7.8?6.3) years old.All patients were randomly divided into experimental group (n=30) and control group(n=30).The experimental group was treated by adding the liver disease special-purpose enteral nutrition preparation homogenized diet and control group was treated by adding entire protein entire nutrition type enteral nutrition preparation. All patients in both 2 groups were nasally fed with intestinal nutrition, which contained 418-628 kJ/(kg?d).One day before nutritional support and 14 days after nutritional support, the liver function, total serum protein, albumin, hemoglobin were recorded.SPSS 11.5 software was used to analyze the data. Results The baseline indicators were similar before nutritional supports.Fourteen days after nutritional support, alanine aminotransferase(ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase(AST) were all significantly lower in experimental group than in control group(Pa
