RESUMEN

Objective To observe the efficacy of fire filiform-needle therapy in treating knee osteoarthritis (KOA) in the elderly.Method Eighty-one elderly KOA patients were randomized into a treatment group of 42 cases and a control group of 39 cases following registration order. The treatment group was intervened by fire filiform-needle therapy, while the control group was treated with ordinary acupuncture. The two groups were treated once every other day, 15 sessions as a treatment course. The Lysholm knee score and short-form Arthritis Impact Measurement Scales 2 (AIMS2-SF) were adopted to observe the activities of daily living and quality of life before and after the treatment, and the clinical efficacies of the two groups were compared.Result The total effective rate was 92.9% in the treatment group, versus 82.1% in the control group, and the total effective rate in the treatment group was significantly superior to the control group (P<0.05). Except for the squatting item of the Lysholm knee score in the control group, the Lysholm knee score and AIMS2-SF score were significantly changed after the treatment in both groups (P<0.05,P<0.01); except for the support item of the Lysholm knee score, the treatment group was superior to the control group in comparing the Lysholm knee score and AIMS2-SF score after the treatment (P<0.01).Conclusion Fire filiform- needle therapy can significantly enhance the activities of daily living and quality of life in elderly KOA patients.

RESUMEN

Obiective To set up a method of scaffold evaluation using human cell line as seed cells and screen appropriate scaffold for live tissue engineering, Methods HepG2 cells were plated onto biodegradable polymer scaffolds: PLGA, 3% chitosan (3%CS) and 2% silk fibroin (2%SF), and cultured in vitro. The growth, distribution and function of HepG2 cells in the scaffolds were evaluated using MTT assay, H.E. staining, and urea assay kit. Results HepG2 cells plated on the three scaffolds maintained a proliferative state. In contrast, the cells on the 2%SF proliferated strongly, while the cells on the PLGA and chitin proliferated poorly. Histological examination showed that HepG2 cells distributed evenly on the 2%SF scaffold with a high amount, while few cells could be found on the PLGA and ehitin at day 7. Cell function assay showed that HepG2 cells on the 2%SF and PLGA exhibited slower decrease of urea synthesis compared to HepG2 cells on the chitosan. Conclusion The three scaffolds have good biocompatibility. In contrast, 2%SF scaffold is more appropriate for liver tissue engineering. This method may be used for scale screening of scaffolds for liver tissue engineering.

RESUMEN

Objective To evaluate the reliability and validity of Short-form Arthritis Impact Measurement Scales 2(AIMS2-SF).Method AIMS2-SF not including the role component was used to evaluate Quality of Life(QOL) of 51 arthritis patients, then its test-retest reliability and the internal consistency reliability were tested, and factor analysis was applied to determine its construct validity. Results The Intra-class correlation coefficients(ICCs) of test-retest reliability of AIMS2-SF ranged from 0.60 to 0.80,and the Cronbach's ? coefficient for internal consistency reliability ranged from 0.65 to 0.83.Furthermore,the factor analysis confirmed the construct validity for AIMS2-SF.Conclusions The study suggested that the AIMS2-SF had satisfactory reliability and validity, then it is applicable for the evaluation of QOLs of Chinese patients with arthritis.
