Abstract Introduction. The number of international students who make university exchanges in Chilean universities has increased considerably. A large number of them come from countries whose native language is not Spanish. Objectives. To know the difficulties of international students (from three disciplinary fields: Humanities, Social Sciences, and Engineering) as perceived by academics, and define the representative academic genres that students should produce during the university exchange. Materials and methods. A quantitative study using a descriptive transectional design was carried out by applying an online questionnaire to 44 academics from a Chilean university. Results. The main difficulty observed by the academics corresponds to a deficient Spanish level, and regarding the representative genres that they must produce, in the written genres stand out: essay (Human Sciences) and laboratory report (Sciences of Engineering) and in oral genres: debates (Human Sciences) and oral presentation (Sciences of Engineering and Human Sciences). Conclusion. Universities need to define and require a Spanish level that allows international students (non-native Spanish) to perform sufficiently in the academic field. In addition, international students must be taught to produce written and oral texts in Spanish.

The Japan-Korea Workshop on Acupuncture and EBM is an academic exchange between the Japan Society of Acupuncture and Moxibustion (JSAM) and the Korean Acupuncture and Moxibustion Medical Society (KAMMS). The theme of the 9th and 10th Workshop was clinical practice guidelines (CPG). Three Korean and two Japanese speakers presented in the 9th Workshop held at Osaka, and two in each country did in the 10th at Jecheon, Korea. Since Korea has already developed some Korean Medicine CPGs, the present state and protocols for improvement process were reported. On the other hand, Japan has not developed such CPGs on acupuncture. The Japanese speakers therefore presented results of a survey on Japanese CPGs that include “acupuncture-moxibustion” as a treatment option and quality assessment of those CPGs. Although there are some differences on circumstances surrounding acupuncture practice between Japan and Korea, it was a good opportunity to obtain useful information for developing CPG on acupuncture in Japan and to discuss on this issue with Korean researchers preceding in this area. We reaffirmed the need for continued academic exchange between JSAM and KAAMS.

RESUMEN

During the latest 20 years, the crucial progress has been made in the field of treatment for Budd-Chiari syndrome(BCS)in China with therapeutic methods transferring from surgical to interventional and achieving successful rate of 96%. Our unique contribution to the BCS interventional therapy should have made ourselves proud for being as a superior world position on account of large number of cases, abundant therapeutic contents and consummate skills. What a pity is that our achievement was not appreciated by international colleagues because of only a few papers published in SCI journals. So that,Chinese scholars ought to have doing more necessarily through diligently learning English, doing long term follow-up and performing more basic researches and actively joining international academic exchanges, let our good experiences of treatment for BCS be introduced to the world-wide.
