RESUMEN

Objective To analyze the effect and possible mechanism of propofol on proliferation and inva-sion of lung cancer cells. Methods Lung cancer cells were cultured and divided into experimental control group, groupL,group M and group H.The optical density of cancer cell was detected by CCK-8.Meanwhile,the difference of the proliferation of cancer cells in each groupwas determined after down-regulation gene. The change of inhibition rate in four groups was analyzed by Transwell test. The expression of MMP-2 and mRNA in different groups were compared by Western blot and Q-PCR. Results the results of CCK-8 test showed the cancer cell viability in H group was lowest and the inhibition ability increasedafter silencing MMP-2 gene(P<0.05); the invasion inhibition rate of the lung cancer cells treated with propofol was higher(P<0.05), and invasion inhibition rate in each group also rise after silencing MMP-2; Western blot and Q-PCR show that the MMP-2 expression level in group Mand group H were lowest(P<0.05).Conclusion Propofol may inhibit the proliferation and invasion of lung cancer cells and its mechanism may be associated with down-regulation MMP-2,which is expected to inhibit the proliferation of lung cancer invasion.

RESUMEN

On September 2013, a 62-year-old man with metastatic adenocarcinoma of the lung complained tenderness and pain of the first terminal phalange of his right hand. The biopsy confirmed metastatic adenocarcinoma of the lung to the finger. A single 8-Gy fraction of palliative radiotherapy was delivered to the patient's right hand. The patient received magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound surgery treatment to the phalange because he showed few improvement of clinical symptoms and persistence of moderate pain after radiotherapy. After magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound surgery, the clinical symptoms improved significantly. No serious adverse effects were reported and the patient compliance was very high. Our patient showed improvement of clinical symptoms after combined treatment. The patient remains in good health conditions.

RESUMEN

The cavernous sinus contains significant structures such as the internal carotid artery and cranial nerves III to VI. Cavernous sinus lesions may cause ophthalmoplegia, proptosis, and diplopia. We report a 56-year-old woman who presented with throbbing headache and associated right-sided ocular pain. While awaiting imaging studies, she suddenly developed opthalmoplegia and ptosis of the right eye. She had ipsilateral palsy of the third and fourth cranial nerves, while the sixth nerve remained intact. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a pituitary gland mass extending into the right cavernous sinus with associated sphenoid sinusitis. The patient underwent endoscopic sinus surgery and subsequent pituitary tumor removal by transsphenoidal approach. During preoperative evaluation, a mass was found protruding in her left bronchus. The pituitary tumor pathologic examination revealed metastatic adenocarcinoma of the lung. In this patient, the initial symptoms of lung cancer were headache and cavernous sinus syndrome, which had metastasized to the pituitary gland.

RESUMEN

Hyperamylasemia in patients with lung cancer is relatively rare, occurring in 1-3% of all cases of the disease. The pathogenesis of hyperamylasemia in solid cancers is not clear. In Korea, no cases of hyperamylasemia have been reported in patients with adenocarcinoma of the lung. Instead, the lung cancers in patients with hyperamylasemia have in most cases been adenocarcinomas. We report a case of a 64-year-old woman with hyperamylasemia that was suspected to have been induced by mucinous adenocarcinoma of the lung. The patient's amylase isoenzyme pattern was of the salivary type. Systemic chemotherapy normalized her serum amylase levels and produced a partial response in her lung cancer.

RESUMEN

The paraneoplastic nephrotic syndrome can be diagnosed by clinical and immunologic features. We have had a case of paraneoplastic nephrotic syndrome in the patients with aadeno-carcinoma of the lung, whose diagnosis was made by excluding other causes of nephrotic syndrome. The type of renal lesion was membranous glomerulopathy which commonly occurs in carcinoma. The quantity of proteinuria in this patient had decreased according to the improvement of lung cancer with combination chemotherapy. After fourth chemotherapy he was refractory to treatment, and unfortunately he had passed away with cardiac tamponade.

RESUMEN

Pulmonary adenocarcinoma of fetal type is a very uncommon tumor of the lung which simulates an early stage of lung differentiation. This is a primitive appearing epithelial tumor similar to the epithelial component of pulmonary blastoma but lacking the sarcomatous features. Since the report of Kradin et al, 8 more cases have been reported by a variety of name. These tumors are composed of glycogen-rich, non-ciliated tubular epithelial cells forming irregularly shaped tubules or arranged in a papillary pattern. A very remarkable findings of this tumor is the presence of endocrine cells which is confirmed by argyrophilia, immunohistochemistry or electron microscopy. We experienced a case of this tumor which showed hepatocytoid differentiation in addition to the characteristic histologic findings. Immunohistochemical studies performed on a resected tumor tissue showed immunoreactivity for alpha-fetoprotein, neuron-specific enolase and somatostatin, and endocrine type granules were found ultrastructurally. Although this tumor seems to have a relation with pulmonary blastoma in its histology, immunohistochemistry and ontogeny, a distinction between these should be attained because the average survival of the former group is longer as 23 months, while that of the latter is only 4 months.
