RESUMEN

Animals exhibit sociability behaviors and spatial use patterns that are important for species survival. Bats are animals that exhibit complex patterns of aggregation of individuals, which can vary according to sex and age. Aggregation can be explained by active or passive mechanisms. In this behavioural note, we report a group of female Artibeus lituratus in the reproductive stage that exhibits aggregation behavior supporting the active mechanism hypothesis. The females returned to the same roost, for two reproductive season, maintaining the aggregation with the same individuals with which the social bonds were already established.

Background: Potato peel extract has demonstrated the ability to reduce platelet aggregation in vitro, suggesting its potential as a dietary intervention for preventing atherothrombotic disorders. Objective: This study aims to evaluate the impact of a potato peel-rich diet on platelet aggregation. Methods: A randomized, crossover-controlled, open two-period study was carried out with the participation of 12 healthy volunteers. Platelet aggregation was assessed before and after a seven-day dietary intervention. Participants consumed either a diet rich in potato peel (2 g/kg/d) or acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) as a reference (100 mg/d). Platelet aggregation percentages were measured following stimulation with arachidonic acid (AA, 150 µg/mL), adenosine diphosphate (ADP, 10 µM), and collagen (COL, 10 µg/mL). Results: The potato peel-rich diet resulted in a slight but significant reduction in platelet aggregation when stimulated with arachidonic acid compared to baseline values (85.0±2.0% vs. 91.3±1.7%, p<0.05). This effect was less pronounced than the reduction achieved with ASA (16±1.9%, p<0.001). Conclusion: The administration of a diet rich in potato peel reduces platelet aggregation induced by arachidonic acid, suggesting its potential role in the prevention of atherothrombotic disorders.

Abstract Indices are used to help on decision-making. This study aims to develop and test an index, which can determine the loss (e.g., herbivorous insects) and solution (e.g., natural enemies) sources. They will be classified according to their importance regarding the ability to damage or to reduce the source of damage to the system when the final production is unknown. Acacia auriculiformis (Fabales: Fabaceae), a non-native pioneer species in Brazil with fast growth and rusticity, is used in restoration programs, and it is adequate to evaluate a new index. The formula was: Percentage of the Importance Indice-Production Unknown (% I.I.-PU) = [(ks1 x c1 x ds1)/Σ (ks1 x c1 x ds1) + (ks2 x c2 x ds2) + (ksn x cn x dsn)] x 100. The loss sources Aethalion reticulatum L., 1767 (Hemiptera: Aethalionidae), Aleyrodidae (Hemiptera), Stereoma anchoralis Lacordaire, 1848 (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae), and Tettigoniidae, and solution sources Uspachus sp. (Araneae: Salticidae), Salticidae (Araneae), and Pseudomyrmex termitarius (Smith, 1877) (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) showed the highest % I.I.-PU on leaves of A. auriculiformis saplings. The number of Diabrotica speciosa Germar, 1824 (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) was reduced per number of Salticidae; that of A. reticulatum that of Uspachus sp.; and that of Cephalocoema sp. (Orthoptera: Proscopiidae) that of P. termitarius on A. auriculiformis saplings. However, the number of Aleyrodidae was increased per number of Cephalotes sp. (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) and that of A. reticulatum that of Brachymyrmex sp. (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) on A. auriculiformis saplings. The A. reticulatum damage was reduced per number of Uspachus sp., but the Aleyrodidae damage was increased per number of Cephalotes sp., totaling 23.81% of increase by insect damages on A. auriculiformis saplings. Here I show and test the % I.I.-PU. It is an new index that can detect the loss or solution sources on a system when production is unknown. It can be applied in some knowledge areas.

Aqui eu apresento e testo o % I.I.-PD.

Frequencies, magnitudes, and distributions of occurrence can affect the events. The problem can be worse or the solution better if greater frequencies and magnitudes are presented with aggregated distribution in the production system. Indices, hence, are used to assist in decision-making on certain issues. The system formed by Caryocar brasiliense Camb. (Malpighiales: Caryocaraceae), a typical and economically important Brazilian Cerrado tree species, and its several arthropods are adequate to evaluate a new index. This study aimed to test an index to identify the loss and solution sources and their importance in the system's loss or income gain. The index is: Percentage of Importance Indice [...] separated the loss sources [e.g., Edessa rufomarginata De Geer, 1773 (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) on fruits = 41.90%)] on the percentage of reduction of fruit production (e.g., 0.13%), calculated the attention level (e.g., 0.10/fruit), with a total lost production of 1.35% (≈ 307 total lost fruits). The % I.I. also separated the solution sources [e.g., Zelus armillatus (Lep. and Servi., 1825) (Hemiptera: Reduviidae) = 55.48%), the non-attention level (e.g., Z. armillatus: 0.394 for E. rufomarginata on fruit), with total income gain of 0.56% (≈ 128 total saved fruits) on the natural system (e.g., C. brasiliense trees). This index can calculate losses or the effectiveness of the solutions monetarily. Here I test the % I.I., an index that can detect the key loss and solution sources on the system, which can be applied in some knowledge areas.

RESUMEN

Decoction is the most commonly used dosage form in the clinical treatment of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). During boiling, the violent movement of various active ingredients in TCM creates molecular forces such as hydrogen bonding, π-π stacking, hydrophobic interactions and electrostatic interactions, which results in the formation of self-assembled aggregates in decoction (SADs), including particles, gels, fibers, etc. It was found that SADs widely existed in decoction with biological activities superior to both effective monomers and their physical mixtures, providing a new idea to reveal the pharmacodynamic material basis of Chinese herbal medicine from the perspective of component interactions-phase structure. Recently, SADs have become a novel focus of research in TCM. This paper reviewed their relevant studies in recent years and found some issues to be concerned in the research, such as the polydispersity of decoction system, instability of active ingredient interactions during boiling, uncertainty of the aggregates self-assembly rules, and stability, purity, yield of the products. In this regard, some solutions and new ideas were presented for the integrated development and clinical application of SADs.

RESUMEN

Objective To investigate the status of familial aggregation of Helicobacter pylori (Hp) infection in Jinniu District, Chengdu, and analyze its risk factors so as to provide a basis for developing prevention and control strategies of family aggregation of Hp infection. Methods A total of 172 subjects in the Second Affiliated Hospital of Chengdu Medical College · 416 Hospital of Nuclear Industry from January 2022 to January 2023 were selected as the research subjects. All subjects underwent 13C-urea breath test (13C-UBT) to diagnose whether there was Hp infection. Analyze the current situation of family aggregation of Hp infection in the region, collect general data of survey subjects, analyze the relevant factors affecting Hp family aggregation infection, and develop prevention and control strategies based on this. Results A total of 242 people from 97 households were surveyed, and the Hp family aggregation rate was 29.33%. Univariate analysis showed that there were statistically significant differences in family aggregation of Hp infection in terms of different age groups (χ2=9.719, P=0.008), marital status (χ2=8.496, P=0.014), occupations (χ2=19.462, P2=5.457, P=0.019), previous Hp test results (χ2 =4.131, P=0.042) and test results after treatment (χ2=12.000, P=0.001), with statistical significance (P<0.05). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the frequency of dining out 2 days or more per week and a positive Hp test results in the past were risk factors for family aggregation of Hp infection, while the occupation of teachers/medical staff/management/technology personnel and a negative Hp results after treatment were protective factors (P<0.05). Conclusion Family aggregation of Hp infection is related to family members' occupation, frequency of dining out, previous Hp test results and Hp test results after eradication, which deserves attention in clinical practice.

RESUMEN

Objectives To analyze the spatial and temporal aggregation of multidrug resistant pulmonary tuberculosis (MDR-TB) incidence in Nanning at the township / street scale from 2017 to 2021, to explore the spatial and temporal characteristics of the spread of MDR-TB in Nanning, and to provide a scientific reference basis for the health administrative departments to achieve the precise implementation of MDR-TB prevention and control. Methods Based on the data of MDR-TB cases in Nanning from 2017 to 2021, the spatial-temporal scanning analysis software SaTScan v9.7 was used to retrospectively detect and analyze the areas where MDR-TB cases gathered. Results Through simple spatial scanning analysis, it was found that there were three first-class aggregation areas (the aggregation center was Fujiayuan Street, Jiangnan District, 2017, Xinyang Street, Xixiangtang District, 2019, and Zhonghe Town, Yongning District, 2020), and one second-class aggregation area (the aggregation center was Jinchai Town, Mashan County, 2020). Simple time scanning showed that the clustering occurred from May 2019 to December 2020. Temporal and spatial aggregation analysis showed that Xinyang Street in Xixiangtang District was the center of the first-class aggregation area, Zhonghe Town in Yongning District was the center of the second-class aggregation area, and Jinchai Town in Mashan County was the center of the third-class aggregation area. Conclusion The multidrug resistant pulmonary tuberculosis epidemic in Nanning is distributed in an aggregated manner, especially in Xinyang Street, Xixiangtang District, which has the highest spatial and temporal aggregation. It is necessary to focus on and take regional prevention and control measures to control the epidemic.

RESUMEN

Background: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is one of the most well-known and feared sequelae of orthopaedic surgery. VTE is relatively common after arthroplasty, prophylaxis has been prescribed. The frequency of postoperative thromboembolic events increased in the absence of primary prevention. Following operations, immobilisation of a lower limb that restricts calf muscle contraction has been shown to be a key risk factor for VTE. VTE is the most frequent source of readmission in orthopaedic patients who have undergone major procedures. It should be emphasized that the best mechanical method for preventing VTE is early walking. Medication for VTE prophylaxis is prescribed more often than mechanical prophylaxis. After major orthopaedic surgery, anticoagulant treatment is essential for reducing morbidity and death. Following hospital discharge, prophylactic drug therapy aims to reduce the morbidity and mortality episodes associated with DVT and PE occurrences. Aspirin use for prevention of VTE following THA and TKA has gained popularity, especially among orthopaedic surgeons due to a minimal risk of postoperative haemorrhage, it also reduces the incidence of recurrent DVTs. Conclusion: Due to its low cost and easy administration without the requirement for regular blood testing, aspirin thromboprophylaxis following knee surgery appears promising. Aspirin saved more QALYs and was cost-effective. Aspirin was demonstrated to have a higher VTE prophylaxis profile than other medications with a time-related association to early mobilisation, healthier patients and medication compliance.

RESUMEN

The aggregation of erythrocytes is an important mechanism for blood flow through the cardiovascular system. In malaria, this is complicated by infection caused by P. falciparum and is further complicated by the severity of parasitemia. Hence analysis of this micro-mechanism is essential to know the changes in blood not only in diseased conditions but also after artemisinin combination therapy (ASAQ) to alleviate suffering. For analysis purposes, aggregation of erythrocytes was determined by LED laser aggregometer, represented in terms of various parameters related to the changes in laser transmitted intensity. Formed aggregates are further analyzed by imaging and image-processing methods. For this study blood samples from young adults (18 – 40 years old) infected with P. falciparum (n= 80), without any other serious illness, were performed. These samples were selected based on the severity of parasitemia, and were divided into low (LP), medium1 (MP1), medium 2 (MP2), and high (HP) parasitemia. For three days, the selected individuals were treated with artemisinin-based combination therapy ASAQ (Artesunate 4 mg/kg and amodiaquine 10 mg base/ kg once a day). Healthy subjects (n=20) without any history of the disease were selected as a control group. The results, as obtained by various parameters, show a significant elevation of aggregation of erythrocytes (P< 0.05) in P. falciparum malaria with the increase of parasitemia level. There was a decrease in the aggregation after treatment on day four tending towards normal. Thus the current study shows the potential beneficial role of ASAQ on erythrocytes aggregation, which may contribute to reducing the harmful effects on various organs in P. falciparum-infected blood.

von Willebrand disease (VWD) is the most common hereditary bleeding disorder, and is characterized by a decreased ability of the von Willebrand factor (VWF) to bind to platelets and extracellular matrix collagen during primary hemostasis, due to quantitative or qualitative defects. VWD is classified into three main phenotypes: 1 and 3, which are quantitative disorders, and 2 (2A, 2B, 2M and 2N) that reflects qualitative disorders. Several steps are necessary for its diagnosis: 1) evaluation of the patient's personal and family bleeding history, 2) initial screening tests for bleeding disorders, 3) tests for the detection of VWD, 4) tests for the classification of VWD, and 5) molecular analysis. Both the subclassification of VWD and its diagnosis continue to represent important challenges, which we aimed to describe in this review, so that health professionals have a guide to assist them when they have patients with a bleeding disorder that requires exclusion of VWD, and implementation of an appropriate treatment.

RESUMEN

@#Introduction: The human tau protein is a key protein involved in various neurodegenerative disease (NDs) including Parkinson’s disease (PD). The protein has high tendency to aggregate into oligomers, subsequently generating insoluble mass in the brain. Symptoms of PD include tremor, bradykinesia, rigidity, and postural instability. Currently drugs for PD treatment are only symptom-targeted while effective therapeutic treatment remains a challenge. The objective of this study is to identify novel promising anti-PD drugs using computational techniques. Method: ligand-based (LB) receptor modelling was conducted using LigandScout, validated and subjected to Glide XP docking, virtual screening, ADMET, and molecular dynamics predictions. Results: The adopted LB modelling generated pharmacophoric features of 5 hydrogen bond donors, 1 aromatic rings, and 7 hydrogen bond acceptors. The validation result indicated GH score of 0.73 and EF of 36.30 as validation protocols, probing it to be an ideal model. Using 3D query of the modelling a total of 192 compounds were retrieved from interbioscreen database containing 70,436 natural compounds. Interestingly, ligands 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 orderly indicated higher binding affinities to the receptor with Glide XP docking of -7.451, -7.368, -7.101, -6.878, and -6.789 compared to a clinical drug Anle138b with -4.552 kcal/mol respectively. Furthermore, molecular dynamics and pkCSM pharmacokinetics demonstrated ligands 1, 2, & 4 having better stability and low toxicity profiles compared to the reference. Conclusion: In summary, the study pave way for discovery of small molecules that could be recommended as adjuvant /single candidate as ant-PD candidates upon further translational study.

RESUMEN

Objective To develop a pharmacogenomics study of ticagrelor in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS), identify the genetic factors that can predict individual differences in antiplatelet aggregation effects of ticagrelor, and provide a reference for the development of individualized regimens for ticagrelor. Methods 75 ACS patients of Chinese Han in a hospital in Fujian province in 2018 who met the entry criteria were recruited. The patient was given the tests for platelet function test, platelet aggregation rate and DNA detection. The whole exon sequencing method (WES) was used to detect the single nucleotide polymorphisms of SLO1B1, UGT2B7, P2Y12, PEAR1, ITGA2B and ITGB3. At the same time, the general clinical data of the patients were collected and recorded. The correlation between antiplatelet aggregation effects of ticagrelor and pharmacogenetic polymorphism was analyzed by one-way analysis of variance, multiple linear regression analysis and binary logistic regression analysis. Results One-way analysis of variance showed that SLCO1B1 rs2306283 mutant allele G could affect the antiplatelet aggregation effect of ticagrelor, the average platelet aggregation rate of patients carrying at least one allele G (AG+GG type) was significantly lower than that of wild homozygotes AA patients (8.07%±6.17% vs 13.88%±6.39%, P≤0.05). However, multivariate regression analysis after adjusting for confounding factors showed that SLCO1B1 rs2306283 mutant allele G was not an independent variable affecting the antiplatelet effects of ticagrelor (P>0.05). Conclusion Single nucleotide polymorphisms of genes related to ticagrelor transport receptors, targets, and platelet membrane receptors (including SLO1B1, UGT2B7, P2Y12, PEAR1, ITGA2B, ITGB3) in ACS patients of Han Chinese in Fujian province will not significantly affect the antiplatelet aggregation effect of ticagrelor, which provides a new treatment option for patients with genetic defects who are not suitable for clopidogrel.

RESUMEN

Abstract Acacia mangium (Willd., 1806) (Fabales: Fabaceae) is a fast growing, rustic, pioneer species, with potential to fix nitrogen, and for programs to recover degraded areas. The objective was to evaluate the distribution and the functional diversity of interactions and the K-dominance of arthropod groups on A. mangium saplings. The number of individuals of eleven species of phytophagous insects, three bee species, and fourteen natural enemy species were highest on the adaxial leaf surface of this plant. Abundance, diversity and species richness of phytophagous insects and natural enemies, and abundance and species richness of pollinators were highest on the adaxial A. mangium leaf surface. The distribution of five species of sap-sucking hemipterans and six of protocooperating ants (Hymenoptera), with positive interaction between these groups, and three bee species (Hymenoptera) were aggregated on leaves of A. mangium saplings. Aethalion reticulatum (L.) (Hemiptera: Aethalionidae) and Bemisia sp. (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae); Brachymyrmex sp. and Camponotus sp. (Hymenoptera: Formicidae); and Trigona spinipes Fabricius (Hymenoptera: Apidae) were the most dominant phytophagous insects, natural enemies, and pollinators, respectively, on A. mangium leaves. Knowledge of preferred leaf surfaces could help integrated pest management programs.

RESUMEN

Objective:To evaluate the performance of the automated digital cell morphology instrument in detecting platelet (PLT) clumps. Methods:A total of 4271 blood samples whose PLT reached the reviewing rules of thrombocytopenia were selected from inpatients having blood analysis in Xijing Hospital from January 1 st to June 30 th, 2019, including 2 200 males and 2 071 females, with a median age of (35±7.03) years old. The smears for these cases were made, stained by Wright-Giemsa, and examined to capture PLT clumps by digital cell morphology system and manual microscope separately. The digital cell analysis system (hereinafter referred to as the instrument method) as an evaluation method and the microscope method as a reference method were used to calculate the positive rate of platelet clump detection and evaluate the comparison of two methods and bias assessments. The chi-square test was used to compare counting data rates. Results:Among 4, 271 samples reaching the reviewing rule of thrombocytopenia, 128 cases with platelet clumps were detected by manual microscope(initial) with a positive detection rate of 96.24%, and a total 133 of cases with PLT clumps were detected by microscope (initial+reconfirmation) with a positive detection rate of 100 %. Meanwhile, 129 cases with platelet clumps were detected by instrument method with a positive detection rate of 96.9%. There was no significant difference in terms of positive rate of PLT clumps detection between the instrumental method and the microscope method (initial) ( χ2 =0.115, P=0.73); the positive rate of clumps detection by the instrumental method was lower than microscope method (initial+reconfirmation), and the difference was statistically significant (χ 2 =4.061, P=0.04). For instrument method, the positive rate of PLT clumps detection by simultaneous observation of RBC analysis interface+PLT aggregation interface+WBC analysis interface was higher than only observation of PLT aggregation interface, and the difference was statistically significant (χ 2 =5.090, P=0.02). The average error of the deviation of PLT counting results before and after correction of the cases with PLT plumps missed by instrument method was significantly higher than microscope method (initial), and the difference was statistically significant (χ 2 =56.26, P<0.001). Conclusion:The automated digital cell morphology system has a good consistency with manual microscope(initial) in terms of the sensitivity of platelet clumps detection and can be used as a supplementary method for detecting platelet aggregation.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE To determine the roles of phosphorylated ubiquitin(pUb)on ubiquitin-dependent proteasomal(UPS)degradation activity, and the roles of pUb on neurodegeneration.METHODS We use PTEN induced kinase 1(PINK1)to phosphorylate ubiquitin. The Ub/S65A cannot be phosphorylated by PINK1,and was used to antagonize the roles of pUb.The Ub/S65E was used to mimic the roles of pUb.The roles of pUb on UPS degradation activity were determined by immunoflu-orescence,Western blot and TIRF microscope at cellular and protein level. The roles of pUb on neurodegeneration were determined by behavior tests, immunofluorescence,Golgi staining,TEM,Western blot and proteomics sacle in mouse.RESULTS The level of soluble PINK1(sPINK1)and pUb increased in the neurons of aged mouse brain, and in the cells upon the administration of MG132,a proteasome inhibitor. The elevation of sPINK1 and pUb was accompanied by protein aggregation upon aging or the proteasomal inhibition. The pink1 knockout alleviated proteasomal inhibition induced protein aggregation and association of ubiquitinated proteins with proteasome. The over-expression of sPINK1 increased pUb level in hippocampal neuron, which chronically induced protein aggregation, mitochondrial damage and damage the structure of neuronal spines.Such neuronal injury lead to cognitive impairment of mice. The roles of sPINK1 was reversed by co-expression with Ub/S65A,and was mimic by over-expression with Ub/S65E.CONCLUSION The phosphorylation of ubiquitin aggravates UPS degrada-tion,and accelerates neuronal degeneration upon the decline of proteasomal degradation in aging and age-related neuronal diseases.
