Papers on phytochemical profile, biological activities, and pharmacological potential were included. A total of 77 scientific articles on the species D. winteri, D. brasiliensis, D. angustifolia, D. granadensis and D. piperita were selected, with information from in vivo and in vitro studies that enable medicinal knowledge, conservation and sustainable use of these species.

RESUMEN

Objective To investigate anti-ulcerative drug use in patients undergoing arthroscopic operation against stress ulcer. Methosds A total of 297 patients undergoing arthroscopic operation during Jan. to Aug. 2013 in our hospital were recruited and retrospectively analyzed with Excellspreadsheet. Results Among 297 patients in the study, ninety-four patients (31.6%) used AUD before operation, most (94.9%) administered by intravenous, and drug utilization index was 1.35. Ninety-eight point nine patients used proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) in which Lansoprazole was prescribed most. Conclusion This study highlights the overuse of PPIs in patients undergoing arthroscopic operation.

In Cuba , Croton argenteus L. is not known as traditional medicinal plant. It belongs to the same genus that C. lechleri , from whose trunk sangre de drago is obtained in the Amazonian countries. It has diverse ethnomedical uses to treat health problems, such as diarrhea, wounds, gastroduodenal ulcers, inflammations, pain, insect bites, and viral infections. There are studies on this species; however, no publications have been found on this plant growing in Cuba . The objective was to validate, in extracts from C. argenteus , the effects reported for the Amazonian plant. Two fluid extracts were prepared from aerial parts, without stalks, dried with ethanol 30 % and 80 %. Studies of phytochemical screening, analgesia in contortions caused by intraperitoneal acetic acid, and bowel transit with oral activated carbon were conducted in mice. The antiinflammatory effect was studied in the case of cotton-induced granuloma, indomethacin-induced gastric injury, and oral acute toxicity with the model of acute toxic lesions in rats. The administered oral doses of both extracts were 500 and 1000 mg of dry plant material /kg. According to the results, the expected pharmacological effects were not proved. The fluid extract (30 %) wasn't toxic, but preparation using ethanol 80% was. Fluids extracts of aerial parts without stalks of C. argenteus lacked activity for the evaluated pharmacological actions.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: To review the drug prescription pattern of antiulcerative agents for elderly inpatients. METHODS: The study population comprised inpatients of community hospitals who were members of the Korean Elderly Pharmacoepidemiologic Cohort (KEPEC), aged 65 years or over, beneficiaries of the Korea Medical Insurance Corporation (KMIC) and residing in Busan city in 1993. The drug prescription information was collected from the claims data of hospitals where the cohort members received medical care between January 1993 and December 1994. The information included personal identification, age, gender, diagnosis, drug dosage, date of hospital admission and name of medical institutions where the study subjects received drug prescriptions. The data analysis produced outcomes in terms of distribution of antiulcerative agents by class and by medical institution and trend of relative prescription. Analysis was also performed in terms of combined prescriptions of antiulceratives and drugs that could induce risk from drug interaction with antiulceratives. RESULTS: The number of patients prescribed antiulcerative agents was 1,059 (64.9%) male and 1,724 (65.5%) female among the total inpatients. An antacid and composite agent was the most frequently prescribed antiulcerative agent (70.8%), followed by H2 antagonist (16.0%). Among the potential drugs that could induce risk from drug interaction with the antiulcerative agents, diazepam was the most frequently prescribed. The proportion of diazepam co-prescription was 22.5% of the total cimetidine prescriptions and 14.5% of the total omeprazole prescriptions. CONCLUSIONS: Antiulcerative drugs were frequently prescribed in the elderly inpatients. The adverse drug reaction could possibly be due to drug interaction. The study results could be used as fundamental data for further drug utilization review of antiulcerative agents.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE:To study the anti-thrombotic,choleretic and anti-ulcerous actions of Rhizoma Ligustici METHO_DS:Experiments were carried out on conventional models of choleresis and ulceration, and on a thrombotic model of using direct current continuously to stimulate the unilateral carotid artery of anesthetic rat RESULTS:Alcoholic extract of Rhizoma Ligustici 3g herb/kg and 10g herb/kg id or ig,increased choleresis and prolonged the time for arterial thrombosis induced by electric stimulation in rats, but did not prolonged coagulative time,PT and KPTT The extract 5g herb/kg and 15g herb/kg ig,inhibited the formation of gastric ulcers induced by water immersion, stress,HCl and indomethacin-alcohol in mice CONCLU_SION:Rhizoma Ligustici has anti-thrombotic choleretic and anti-ulcerous actions
