RESUMEN

Objective:To evaluate the effect of whole-body vibration training on exercise ability and quality of life in patients with Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).Methods:Randomized controlled trials on the application of whole-body vibration training in COPD patients were retrieved from PubMed, Medline, EMbase, Web of Science, Wanfang, VIP, CNKI, Chinese biomedical literature database, and the literature was independently screened according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, the data were extracted, a literature quality evaluation was performed, and the data were meta analyzed by using RevMan5.3.Results:A total of 9 RCTs was included in this study. Meta-analysis results showed that whole-body vibration training could improve the exercise endurance in COPD patients ( WMD=41.65, 95%CI 6.68-76.63, P=0.02), and improve their balance ability ( WMD=-2.31, 95%CI-3.38--1.23, P<0.01). There was no significant difference in improving BODE index, quality of life and lung function in COPD patients ( P>0.05). Conclusions:Whole-body vibration training helps improve exercise endurance and balance in COPD patients as a complementary or alternative exercise method for COPD patients. The impact on BODE index, quality of life, and lung function still needs further evaluation through clinical multicenter, large sample, high-quality research.

Physical performance has a central place in military career and its self-perceptions are related to well-being. We sought to analyze whether there is a relationship between indicators of psychological well-being (positive and negative affectivity, well-being and psychological distress) and perceived athletic ability. The research had a cross-sectional, retrospective ex-post-facto design with a single group and multiple measures. The total sample was 156 cadets from the Colegio Militar de la Nación Argentina, of which 77.6% (n = 121) were men. Perceived athletic ability presented a positive relationship with total well-being and positive affectivity, a negative relationship with psychological distress and no relationship was found with negative affectivity. The results show that subjective well-being in military cadets is related to perceived physical performance, replicating what the literature on the field of professional sports maintains. In this sense, the importance of incorporating the tools of sports psychology in the military field is raised to achieve an improvement in the physical performance of cadets(AU)

RESUMEN

Objective To study the changes of physical functions among minority students in China from 1985 to 2005, to provide evidence for health promotion to the minority students in the country. Methods Using data from the Chinese national survey on students physical fitness and health from 1985 to 2005, we analyzed the physical functions of 15 minority groups from primary and secondary schools, including Mongolian, Hui, Uygur, Zhuang, Korean, Tibetan, Yao, Li, Qiang, Buyi, Dong, Miao, Tu, Salar, Kirgiz, aged 7-18 years old. Results Some of the minority students had the higher levels of physiological functions and athletic ability, but some indicators decreased significantly. In terms of items related to 'speed' , most of the minority boys and girls improved, but items related to 'endurance' or 'vital capacity', were significantly declining. Part of the minority students bad better 'endurance' than students of Hart ethnicity in the cities. All the indicators of athletic ability declined in schoolboys and schoolgirls of Korean ethnicity. Kirgiz students were outstanding in vital capacity and speed quality while Uighur students had better physical development and vital capacity, but were poorer in running and jumping, reflecting the weakness of explosive power of lower limbs. On the contrary, Li and Zhuang students had shown a very good quality in running, jumping, male shoulder muscular strength and endurance items, etc. Conclusion The physical functions and the athletic ability of the minority students in China had the advantages and characteristics, which might be related to their living environment and habits.

RESUMEN

[Objective] To examine the effect of moxibustion treatment for reducedpain during activity due to hallux valgus.<BR>[Methods] The subjects were five young females with pain due to hallux valgus. Indirect moxibustion treat-ment was carried out on the region of maximum pain to relieve pain. Moxibustion was performed once per day for 2 weeks, for a total of 14 times. Evaluation used the number of side steps performed and the pain (Numerical Rating Scale) at the time of a side step.<BR>[Results] After moxibustion treatment, pain improvement was observed in all subjects at the time of a side step. At the same time, the number of side steps increased. Repeated measurements before and after moxibustion indicated that there was no significant learning effect.<BR>[Discussion and Conclusion] It became clear that the pain due to hallux valgus is mitigated by moxibustion over a fixed period, while athletic ability with respect to side steps is also improved. These results suggested the pain during activity due to hallux valgus is controllable with moxibustion treatment. By controlling pain, moxibustion treatment also temporarily improves athletic ability.
