RESUMEN

Brain science is the "ultimate territory" for human beings to understand the nature. In the present paper, the authors introduce the current state of brain science research projects in the USA, European countries, Japan and China. In recent years, with the continuous innovations of technologies in brain imaging, biosensors, human-computer interaction and big data, the brain science has become an important frontier field with interdisciplinarity and a focus of science and technology strategies in various countries. As a scientific and technological resource with original advantages in China, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is abundant in knowledge of brain, almost covering all kinds of encephalopathy in modern medicine. At present, TCM is increasingly becoming an effective tool to conquer mental and nervous diseases. With the intersection and penetration of multi-disciplines, an increasing close association between the traditional theory of TCM about prevention and treatment of encephalopathy and modern basic biological research appears, and new ideas, new technologies and new achievements have constantly been coming out, particularly in the field of acupuncture medicine. In the present historical juncture when the development of science and technology in China is changing from the "follower" to the "parallel runner", even the "top runner" in some fields, the progress of brain science research in TCM will make enormous contributions to explore brain disease and exploit cutting-edge technologies of TCM, as well as accelerate the modernization of TCM.

RESUMEN

Military Brain Science is a cutting-edge innovative science that uses potential military application as the guidance. It was preliminarily divided into 9 aspects by authors: understanding the brain, protecting the brain, monitoring the brain, injuring the brain, interfering with the brain, repairing the brain, enhancing the brain, simulating the brain and arming the brain. In this review, we attempt to propose the concept, content and meaning of the Military Brain Science, with the hope to provide some enlightenment and understanding of the research area.

RESUMEN

Objective To observe the effects of balance acupuncture at hypoglycemic point on type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods Three-week balance acupuncture on hypoglycemic point was executed for 60 cases of confirmed type 2 diabetes mellitus patients, the changes of blood glucose, urine glucose, systolic pressure, diastolic pressure, blood fat, body weight and clinical symptoms were recorded, and statistical analysis was carried out with CHISS software. Results Balance acupuncture on hypoglycemic point decreased significantly the blood glucose, blood pressure, blood fat and etc of the patients (P<0.001),the clinical symptoms were improved obviously after acupuncture such as thirst, bulimia and dieresis (P<0.001),and there was statistical difference between the body weights before and after acupuncture (P<0.05).Conclusion Balance acupuncture contributes to improving the blood glucose, blood pressure and blood fat of type 2 diabetes mellitus and relieves the clinical symptoms, whose mechanism, involving in the idea of brain science,is to fulfill acupuncture through central control.

RESUMEN

Building a new concept of combat forces is an important initiative in the 12th Five-Year Plan of National Defense Strategies. In the era of biotechnology, global powers have been competing for brain control by means of accelerated development in brain science and the military theory of Innovation to Subdue.Based on elaboration on the concepts and developments of military applications of brain science as well as on analysis of impacts on the mechanism of winning, this paper proposes the operation concepts of pre-settingand bio-orientation,the combat modes of mechanized warfareand idiodynamic warfare, and weapon evolution into intellectualizationand brain-control orientation. This paper presents a practical system design of military applications of brain science:presetting—key technology—weapons′power source-mechanism of winning. The constitution and winning mechanism of the three-stage mode of battle effectiveness are summarized as improving the operation capability—war of super soldiers, changing the main force of operations—war of mechanized legions, altering the principles of operations—war of spiritual consciousness. This paper also suggests the upgradation from damage theoryto control theory, the shift from informatizationtointellectualization, and strategic breakthroughs from independent developmentto collaborative innovation.

RESUMEN

The Malaysian Journal of Medical Sciences and the Orient Neuron Nexus have amalgated to publish a yearly special issue based on neuro- and brain sciences. This will hopefully improve the quality of peer-reviewed manuscripts in the field of fundamental, applied, and clinical neuroscience and brain science from Asian countries. One focus of the Universiti Sains Malaysia is to strengthen neuroscience and brain science, especially in the field of neuroinformatics.

RESUMEN

President Obama of the United States of America announced this April the Brain Research Through Advancing Innovative Neurotechnologies (BRAIN for short) investment, while Professor Henry Markram’s team based in the European Union will spend over a billion euros on the Human Brain Project, breaking through the unknowns in the fifth science of the decade: Neuroscience. Malaysia's growth in the same field needs to be augmented, and thus the Universiti Sains Malaysia’s vision is to excel in the field of clinical brain sciences, mind sciences, and neurosciences. This will naturally bring up the level of research in the country simultaneously. Thus, a center was recently established to coordinate this venture. The four-year Integrated Neuroscience Program established recently will  be a sustainable source of neuroscientists for the country. We hope to establish ourselves by 2020 as a global university with neurosciences research as an important flagship.
